Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry

Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry Helping Feed Needy Arkansans AHFH helps distribute this surplus as healthy meals on the tables of needy Arkansans - many of whom are children and the elderly.

Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry (AHFH) is a community-minded program that provides venison and other wild game to those in need. Organizations, businesses, and churches of many denominations have joined farmers and hunters to transform an abundant white-tailed deer population into a renewable food source for the hungry in Arkansas. With the growing number of deer and other big game in America,

many deer and other big game are being harvested and discarded for herd control. In addition, liberal bag limits and extended seasons are putting hunters in the position of being able to harvest more deer and other big game than they can personally consume. The success of the program depends upon the generosity of hunters, cooperation from meat processors throughout the state, support from local food distribution organizations, and the financial contributions of businesses and other citizens. The organization needs to raise $150,000 to fund the program annually and reach our goal of being able to provide a million meals a year (free of charge) to needy Arkansans. As state economic resources have diminished - AHFH relies heavily on individuals, hunting clubs, businesses, churches and other groups across Arkansas to donate funds to cover processing costs.

A visit to the Manila school district was in order for my Thursday. This was the first time we were able to place snack sticks into their school district. This was possible through a grant from the Mississippi County Community Foundation. The guy in the red is Jeremy Brown with the AGFC and Deer Management Assistant Program. Next to Jeremy is Malory Adcock (counselor and backpack coordinator). Next to me is John Burrow (principal)
