“Being a mentor has been life-changing for me.” 🤍

Christy started volunteering and mentoring with Immerse in 2022. She first came to serve meals at The Gathering on Tuesday nights, and what started as volunteering grew into a mentoring relationship.

“One of my favorite memories as a mentor has been bonding with Jasmine and taking her on her first cruise vacation! It was a joy to see her embrace new experiences and to watch the world open up for her.”

‼️ UPDATE! Due to increased attendance and excitement around the event, we are changing venues to accommodate a larger audience ‼️

What would it take for Arkansas to become the best state in the nation to be a teen in foster care or to age out?🌟

For the past 10 months, the Ready for Life Task Force has been working on that question. Our founder and CEO, Eric Gilmore, chairs the group at the invitation of DCFS. It brings together 13 partner agencies, DCFS leaders and former foster youth. On Oct. 22, we’ll share the task force’s recommendations with the community and invite you into the conversation.

The Task Force Panel will feature members of the Ready for Life Task Force discussing the recommendations and what they could mean for older youth in foster care and young people aging out.

The Housing Panel will feature Michael Weitzman, policy adviser with the HUD Faith Office; state Sen. Jim Petty; and Karen Phillips, chief operating officer of Restore Hope, discussing current housing reform efforts and Foster Youth to Independence voucher opportunities for older youth.

We believe in a future where older youth enter adulthood resilient, healing and ready for life. That work takes all of us. We’d love for you to join us.

Meet our new Director of Growth & Transformation, Justin Kirkes! In this role, he’ll lead work focused on therapeutic care, transformational experiences, staff development and collaboration across Immerse, with a vision of “therapy for all” — ensuring every young person has meaningful access to therapeutic support.

Justin joined Immerse in 2023 to lead our Recreation and Transformational Experiences program (TRX), growing the team, expanding programming and strengthening how these experiences support youth.

Justin is pure joy and a great example of our values: "with," "worship" and "relentless pursuit." We're excited to see him continue helping young people discover they are known, valued and capable.

What would it take for Arkansas to become the best state in the nation to be a teen in foster care or to age out?

Last December, DCFS Director Tiffany Wright asked our Founder & CEO Eric Gilmore to chair a group of community providers to start a conversation about how Arkansas could better serve older youth in foster care. Over the past 10 months, that conversation has grown into the Ready for Life Task Force, bringing together 13 partner agencies of professionals, providers, DCFS leaders and former foster youth to imagine what could be possible.

After completing a statewide landscape analysis and developing a shared vision, Eric recently shared the task force’s initial recommendations with the Children and Youth Legislative Committee.

We believe we can see a day when older youth consistently enter adulthood resilient, healing and ready for life. That means more young people completing their education, finding meaningful jobs, building lifelong connections, living in safe and stable housing and raising their children in strong families.

On Oct. 22, we’ll share these recommendations with the broader community, discuss what comes next and invite others into the conversation. We’d love for you to join us!
