Most evangelical Christians agree with these statements about grandparents, but so little is being done to challenge and equip this huge group — 30 million strong — of generation-changers. The gap between what is and what ought to be is enormous. The grandparent relationship is unrecognized and under-resourced in nearly all churches. Many churches have a Family Ministry, which focuses on parenting, and a Senior Ministry — but nothing which focuses on grandparents and their potential to disciple, especially younger grandparents. Plus, “retirement culture” pushes grandparents – even Christian ones – to pursue their own pleasure. Finally, resource providers largely overlook this audience, because of the lack of attention in churches. Here’s the summary:

• Grandparents with incredible potential to influence the next generation — and a Biblical mandate to do it — are generally overlooked, under-resourced, ignored, and mislabeled.

• Grandparents themselves often lack vision, need support and community, or don’t know of tools which can help. We believe it is time to chart a new course — to engage this incredible potential by envisioning, encouraging, and equipping grandparents —
through ministries in the local church.

These were Diana Rivadeneira's first thoughts when she learned her daughter was pregnant. Diana was thrilled by the news, but she was also apprehensive, recalling how poorly equipped she had been when she became a wife—and then again when she became a mother. Diana didn’t want to look back once again and feel that she could have done better if she had known and followed God’s principles from the beginning.

⭐️ Hello! We're Eduardo and Diana Rivadeneira. We just came back from a conference about being grandparents—the Legacy Grandparenting Summit. As you know, we became grandparents just a week ago, and we're so happy! Because we didn't know how to be grandparents. But at the conference we learned so much about how to be intentional grandparents who will have an impact on our grandchildren's lives.
