With only 4 majority-minority Senate districts and 12 in the House, Black Arkansans are already underrepresented in the state legislature. Now, the Supreme Court’s recent ruling of redistricting, opens the door to further dilution. ABMA stands firmly: the zip code you grow up in should not determine the quality of your government. We are watching. We are organizing. We are not backing down.

On this Memorial Day, the Arkansas Black Mayors Association pauses to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this nation. We remember those from our communities; the sons, daughters, neighbors, and friends, who wore the uniform with pride and gave everything so we could live freely. Their legacy lives on in every community we serve and every fight we carry forward. Today we honor them.

The new 2026 Census data shows Arkansas’s Black population is growing in cities like Little Rock, but historic Black communities in the Delta like Pine Bluff are declining sharply. ABMA mayors represent many of these communities and are fighting every day to reverse that trend. Equitable investment, not just urban growth, must be Arkansas’s story going forward.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling changes how portions of the Voting Rights Act may be applied across the country. In Arkansas, the decision could influence representation and voting access, particularly in communities that have historically relied on protections within the Act.

ABMA is committed to helping residents stay informed about issues that affect their communities. We encourage you to get registered to vote, check your voter registration information if you are registered, stay informed, and stay engaged because every voice matters.

Arkansas's steel industry has seen billions in investment, including a $3 billion facility, the largest private investment in state history. But for communities like Osceola and Blytheville, the work isn't done yet.
Rising rents, limited local hiring, and decades of job loss remain real challenges. Programs like "Work Here, Live Here" are helping bridge the gap, with 163 families already enrolled. The boom is here. Now it's time for the benefits to stay local.
