The 81st State Convention of the NAACP Arkansas State Conference kicked off yesterday with a very informative, educational and thought provoking Pre-Convention Summit.

Attendees were provided resource information that can be taken back to their communities to help with the fight again housing and food insecurities.

Thank you to Rent-A-Center of Little Rock and ARSILC of Little Rock for sponsoring the event.

Thank you to coordinator and moderator, Dr. Dametrice FranSha Anderson for doing an amazing job. Thank you to all of our professionals who took the time out of their busy schedules to care and present not only ways to help our community but how to understand what this means to us and our communities.

Black Men’s Mental Health Matters

In Arkansas, Black men reported an average of 5.8 days of poor mental health in the past month in 2024, compared with 5.2 days among men statewide.

Arkansas recorded 625 su***de deaths in 2023; 81.8% were among males and 8.2% among Black residents. The state report gives those figures separately, so they do not show how many deaths were specifically among Black men.

Nationally, only 14.7% of Black adults received mental health treatment in 2024, compared with 22.9% of adults overall. Reaching out, checking on one another, and connecting people with support can make a difference.

Among the available breakout sessions, will be a panel discussion on Men's Mental Health hosted by the NAACP Arkansas State Conference Health Committee. It is the part 2 discussion.
