We are honored to celebrate Dr. Betholyn Gentry, a true trailblazer in the field of speech-language pathology and a lifelong member and leader within NBASLH. Dr. Gentry served UAMS for 43 years as a professor of Speech-Language Pathology and as director of both the master’s and Ph.D.-level programs, leaving a legacy of leadership, mentorship, and excellence.

Today, AR-NBASLH had the distinct honor of presenting the Fresh Start Award to the phenomenal Nyah Scott, who graduated with High Honors from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences!

This award celebrates resilience, renewal, and rising into purpose—and Nyah is the perfect reflection of all three.

I had the privilege of presenting this award alongside Dr. Gentry, former Program Director of the UAMS College of Health Professions, Communication Sciences and Disorders Department. It was a full-circle moment to see a new generation stepping boldly into the field.

Congratulations, Nyah! Your brilliance, heart, and hard work have already set you apart—and this is only the beginning.

The AR-NBASLH PEER Program and the UAMS Speech, Language, and Hearing Department BIPOC Group joined forces for an engaging and insightful workshop on negotiating contracts! Participants walked away with valuable tools to advocate for themselves, secure fair agreements, and step confidently into new opportunities.

When we educate, equip, and empower, we elevate our profession and our communities!
