“See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet!” Instagram won’t let us play that song, but we can show you this car. Around 23 years old then, it’d be 100 now.

April 15 is not just Tax Day, it’s also World Art Day.

Have you seen this painting before? This boldly colored, striking cityscape is none other than Little Falls, New Jersey, which is also the title. Painted by Oscar Bluemner in 1917, this piece has been on display in various locations from Washington D.C. to Oxford, England and even The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where it is currently stored.

It’s a great example of early American modernist art. Though it’s abstract, the vibrant colors and simple architectural forms capture the emotion the artist must’ve felt as he painted what was in front of him.

We hope you feel inspired by this small piece of art history too.

Join the Little Falls Historical Society for a fascinating evening exploring the lively world of colonial taverns—where history wasn’t just written, it was debated, toasted, and brought to life. From revolutionary ideas to strategic wartime planning, these gathering places shaped the future of a nation.

Don’t miss this engaging presentation by Michael C. Gabriele, inspired by his newest book Colonial Taverns of New Jersey: Libations, Liberty and Revolution.

Let’s take a look at what you could shop for 70 years ago right across from Passaic Valley High. It is a “Carnival Of Food Values”! February 2, 1956.

As we brace for a significant though not “historic” snowstorm, we remind you to ensure your car has enough fuel.

At one time you could stop at the Gulf station on the corner of 1st Avenue and Main to do so. Here is the original station in 1947 covered in snow, and the streamlined version that’s still there today. Do you remember going here?

Do you have photos or stories related to snow in Little Falls? Please share! Our archive lacks Blizzard of ‘96 photos in particular, but we’d love to see them all!

We received this photo of an event we believe took place at School 3 featuring a magician named FOOLEMESI. And we need your help! Do you recognize anyone in the photo or know when/where it took place?
Clues: kids appear to be in costumes and the schools didn’t have multi-purpose rooms until the early-mid 1950s.

This cool photo was in a box donated by son of former school principal Peter Yurkosky. Special thanks for the donation. And a reminder that if you have old photos related to Little Falls, we’d love to see them!

Today, for our “Then And Now” look back, we’re taking you to January 15, 1955 at 115 Main Street. This corner at Center Avenue has seen several iterations over the decades.

We start with the new First Savings and Loan Association which featured full air conditioning, parking for 50 cars and was even open on Friday evening!

Eventually this became the Valley National Bank which itself has evolved into the Valley Bank you see today.

As we ring in a new year, we look back to a 1947 newspaper article showing a 1938 LaSalle ambulance. It replaced one built about 100 years ago, a 1926 Cadillac, which entered service for Little Falls in 1943. (The first year of ambulance service in town).

What an upgrade each ambulance must have been over something like the “speedy fire wagon” powered by “Bob the horse” of a few decades prior!
