The youngest of the Solorio/Orona family in the early 1900's was Pedro Solorio Orona, or Tio Pedro as most of us knew him.
The 1900's were a rough time period as means of getting around was by wagon and mules or burro's. Not much to
brag about and the means of getting from one place to another took a whole day. That is the reason that you see small towns 15 to 25 miles apart as that is as far as a wagon could be pulled. two wheeled wagons were not uncommon and they were rudely made at home by the owners. There were no local wagon dealers like we have car dealers today. So wheels were made from local wood, and the wagon was made to a size that the family could use. Great Great Grandpa Pedro Solorio and Francisco Orona, they were the ones that moved the family to Central Texas from the West Texas Area. Great Great Grandpa Pedro Solorio owned over 7000 acres north of Van Horn Texas and sold them to move the families to central Texas. From Van Horn to the next town, took about a whole day or 30 miles travel. Today it takes 5.5 hours to travel from Van Horn to Colorado City, for a total of 317 miles. In 1900's it took 10.5 days to travel the distance by mule or oxen. Needless to say, Travel took longer because the stops might be for 2 or 3 days depending on the availability of work, food and water. Can you imagene your kids asking? are we there yet for that long a period.

It’s inspiring to see where our site is recommended to others, it’s a way to make more people aware that we are here. Let more people know...

Jumano Nation

The Jumano Nation is composed of a group of people that were originally from the Chihuahua area before Mexico became Mexico.

The family was spread out between Julimes, La Junta, Pecos and all the way to Gran Quivira NM. Today the Family is spread from Florida to California with the majority of the family being in Texas and New Mexico. Most of our ancestors that we have recollections of were born in Ridosa texas, just north west of Presidio Texas
