Today we would like to say thank you to Chief Daniel Meister and congratulations on your retirement!

Chief Meister has spent 31 years in law enforcement, the last seven with the Fox Valley Metro Police Department. Previously, Chief Meister spent time with the Milwaukee Police Department, Pewaukee Police Department and the Columbus Police Department. Prior to his law enforcement career, Chief Meister served in the United States Army, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.

During his time with the FVMPD, Chief Meister was integral in growing our staff to keep up with our growing communities, the development of our CSO Program, and with the assistance of the Metro Police K-9 Foundation, the implementation of our first ever Patrol K9.

Thank you Chief, for leading with Compassion, Integrity and Professionalism as well as the countless contributions to our communities. Hopefully the next chapter will be just as rewarding as the last!

Happy National K-9 Veterans Day!

In 1907, a New York Police Commissioner sent an inspector to study the Ghent training program, and the NYPD implemented the first canine training program in the United States, though with mixed results. The use of K9 units grew in popularity in the 1950s, after Baltimore's police department's K9 program garnered national attention.

Today, we salute the loyal and courageous K9s who have served alongside our armed forces, law enforcement, and emergency teams. These brave dogs have gone above and beyond in protecting our nation, demonstrating unparalleled dedication, strength, and heart.

From detecting danger to saving lives, these heroes remind us of the unique bond between humans and dogs. Let’s take a moment to honor their service and sacrifice. 🐶💙
