Today at , the Indian Land Tenure Foundation is proud to co-host "100 Years in the Making: The Meriam Centennial Initiative" alongside the American Indian College Fund, the Brookings Institution, and Native Americans in Philanthropy. 🌱

Nearly 100 years ago, the Meriam Report was the first major study to hold federal policy accountable for the economic and social challenges facing Native communities. Now, we're coming together to ask: what has — and hasn't — changed? And how do we move forward?

The Meriam Centennial Initiative is a Native-led, data-driven effort to shape bold, meaningful policy for Indian Country ahead of that 100th anniversary in 2028. We're honored to be part of this work and this community.

Session Spotlight

Exploring Carbon & Co-Benefits on Native Lands: New Tools and Resources for Tribal Communities
🗓 March 25, 2026 | 3:00–4:15 PM
📍 Mystic Lake Casino

This session introduces the National Indian Carbon Coalition (NICC) and its Tribal Carbon & Co-Benefits Hub and Atlas — geospatial tools designed to help Tribal Nations evaluate carbon project opportunities while centering sovereignty, stewardship, and community-defined co-benefits.

Featuring: Lakota Ironboy & Caitlin Smith
Moderator: Quentin Ikuta

As Tribal Nations explore opportunities in the voluntary carbon market, access to Tribally relevant data and trusted technical tools is critical. This session offers a practical starting point for leaders, land managers, and decision-makers ready to explore carbon opportunities on their own terms.

Meet the Leaders Driving Land Back at the Native Land Conference

We’re honored to welcome two nationally respected leaders to our Lunch Plenary – The Nuts and Bolts of Land Back:

✨ Alvin Warren (Santa Clara Pueblo) – Tribal leader and land restoration expert. Alvin has spent decades helping Tribes regain, protect, and steward ancestral lands, including leading landmark land reacquisition efforts and shaping policy at the federal and state level.

✨ Jodi Archambault (Hunkpapa & Oglala Lakota) – Founder of ANPO, acclaimed advocate, and artist. Jodi applies a transformative lens across policy, art, and activism to expand understanding of Indigenous rights while centering Indigenous ways of life and community relationships.

Moderated by: ✨ John Sirois (Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation) – Traditional Territory Advisor and former Colville Business Council Chair. John brings decades of experience in Tribal governance, land management, and policy, guiding discussions on practical tools and strategies for advancing Land Back initiatives.

Together, they’ll explore how Land Back happens in practice — from legal and policy strategies to cultural and community-driven approaches.
