On Tuesday, our board president, Jim Presto, was recognized with the Community Visionary Award at the Su***de Prevention LC Su***de Prevention Month Proclamation Ceremony (award presented by our Director of Outreach, Mary). We couldn't be prouder of Jim and couldn't agree more with the description on his award:

"As a survivor of su***de loss, you have transformed personal tragedy into a powerful source of hope, advocacy, and support for others. Your compassion, resilience, and commitment have made a difference in the lives of countless individuals and families throughout the community."

We're so grateful to have Jim as a leader in our organization and we thank Lehigh County for recognizing his deep commitment to this cause.

It's here! The first episode of this year's season of The Aevidum Podcast launched today!

Starting strong can set the tone for the entire school year, but it doesn’t mean you have to have everything figured out.

In this episode, we talk to Marlee, an Aevidum student and member of our Youth Advisory Board, and Kathy Spease, a school psychologist and longtime Aevidum supporter, to explore practical ways students and parents can navigate the back-to-school season with confidence, manage anxiety, build meaningful connections, and prioritize mental wellness from day one.

A few reminders as we head back to school...

A new school year can bring a lot of feelings.

As you step into this next chapter, remember, you don't have to have it all figured out. You don't have to be perfect. And you don't have to do it alone.

Take it one day at a time. Give yourself some grace. Try something new. Ask for help when you need it. Make room for someone who might be feeling a little out of place. And remember that you belong here. 💛

We're so excited to announce that we will be hosting THREE Advisor Recharge events this September.

Advisors are the backbone of our organization so we're offering an opportunity for them to gather and recharge . Aevidum Club Advisors in attendance will receive updates, resources, training, new ideas, networking, and lunch as well as their Material Kits for the new school year.

We hope to see you at one of the events:

📍 9/17 at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit

All events run from 12:00-3:00pm.

Over the past few weeks, we've been working closely with our friends at ***depa and to develop a new video module about how schools can engage youth and families in their su***de prevention efforts.

Last week, Francesca, our Executive Director, got to visit the to film the module. 📽

This new module will be part of the updated Prevent Su***de PA Online Learning Center's su***de prevention courses for educators to help them meet the requirements of Act 71. We can't wait to share the module with you when it's finished and we thank Prevent Su***de PA for allowing us to be a part of this important project! 💛

"In recent years Lehigh County has awarded small grants to local schools through the nonprofit Aevidum program, to start student-driven and faculty-supported clubs that spread awareness and break the stigma around mental health. These clubs host events, gathering and display signage that encourages students to speak compassionately, support one another and treat mental illness no differently than any other medical condition.

Those investments couldn’t come at a more critical time. Some 43% of Lehigh Valley students report feeling depressed most days in the past 12 months, but thanks to these investments, 86% of Lehigh Valley students report that their understanding of mental illness has increased. That means more students supporting their peers, showing empathy and coming forward when they need help.

Aevidum, which was started in 2003, by students in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania stands for “I’ve got your back.”

That phrase reflects the spirit of urgency and importance to the investments in services the governor highlighted Friday.

To the person struggling in silence, wondering if help is on the horizon; to the student or senior who feels isolated and alone; to the individual who wakes up every morning to feelings of despair and depression, “I’ve got your back” is both an ethos and action, our county workers live every day.

Every time we answer a call to a person in crisis, connect someone to vital services and build a culture of compassion, we’re saying and showing to those in need, “I’ve got your back.”"
