Freshly shucked oysters somehow taste even better when you’re helping protect the waters they grow in. Last Friday, LandStudies staff enjoyed a special lunch at the office, sharing gratitude and pride in being part of the widespread effort to clean up the Bay, starting within our local watersheds.

Just behind this smorgasbord at our Lititz office sits New Street Park Floodplain Restoration, one of our earliest projects constructed in 2004. More than 20 years later, it’s still hard at work capturing sediment and nutrients during high flow events and providing valuable habitat for wildlife in a developed area. The waters of Santo Domingo Creek flow through New Street Park into Lititz Run, then the Conestoga River, onward to the Susquehanna, and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.

From our backyard to the Bay, we’re all connected—and every restoration makes a difference.

How do we know Spring is arriving soon? For one, our Field Operations office has been buzzing and crew member training has started! Last week new and old staff got to know each other through training sessions covering pesticides, plant identification, equipment, and more. Providing team members with the skills and confidence to perform various tasks safely and successfully is key to building and maintaining sustainable landscapes for our clients.

2026 is already looking bright for watershed restoration! Collaboration is key to getting this important work done, and we’d like to highlight a few recent shared wins involving our partners:

🌊 We’re thrilled to celebrate the Conestoga River being named 2026 Pennsylvania River of the Year – the first time in the award’s history – resulting in a $15K leadership grant to fuel year-long community and conservation activities in the Conestoga Watershed. ✨ We’re also proud to have partnered with PLNA in revising the Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist (PCH) manual, showcasing the latest best practices for landscape professionals. PLNA will highlight this achievement at their annual conference this week. Learn more here: https://tinyurl.com/4njeskp8

🌱 And in higher education, a major gift supporting Earth & Environment studies at Franklin & Marshall strengthens the pipeline for future watershed scientists and stewards. We’re proud to have worked closely with the incredible professors and students of F&M for over two decades now, researching the science and history of our watershed which inform our restoration efforts. Voting for PA's annual River of the Year award is officially open — and this is our chance to shine a spotlight on a local gem – the Conestoga River! For decades an incredible network of partners committed to restoring our local waterways have shown how restoration efforts throughout the broader Conestoga River watershed can provide clean water and so much more. From peaceful paddling routes and wildlife habitat to its deep cultural roots in our region, the Conestoga has been weaving stories for generations. Today’s meeting agenda: belly rubs, treats, and tail wags. When we’re not working like dogs, we’re enjoying their company. Here’s a few of our four-footed office colleagues that help us manage the hard work behind floodplain restoration and improving water quality everyday. (Rico, Bubba, Shemp, and Darby)

Trick or treat! 🐺🎃 These coyote decoys have been tricking geese (and the occasional driver) — which makes them a treat for those of us working to protect water quality at this nearly-completed floodplain restoration project along Lititz Run Millport Conservancy. They're doing their job spooking geese to keep them from adversely impacting the water quality in the stream and disturbing the sensitive areas along the restored floodplain where vegetation has yet to establish. We had a wonderful time at the Lehigh Valley Watershed Conference earlier this week. Nick Myers, LandStudies’ Maintenance Manager, presented alongside Greg Kedzierski from Ernst Seeds about creating and maintaining a thriving native plant community from seed. It was also great to see professor Frank Pazzaglia of Lehigh University highlight a LandStudies project during his presentation about stream anatomy and health.

Time spent learning from and sharing expertise with others in the field is a value we practice regularly by participating at annual conferences, monthly watershed group meetings, leading guided tours, and more. Check out our website to learn more about the outreach and education services we offer.

Thank you, Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley for organizing this great event!
