Over the past 15 years we've had the opportunity to share our restoration work with graduate students from Temple University looking to better understand the relationship between design and ecological systems. Earlier this week we yet again had the pleasure of leading another group through the Lititz Run Watershed and enjoyed meaningful conversations around the ecological function, project logistics, and maintenance of these sites.

These visits are a reminder that inspiration flows both ways. While we share lessons learned from years of restoration practice, the students bring fresh perspectives and thoughtful questions that often challenge us to see this work in new ways.

The Erosion and Sedimentation Department attended a Legacy Sediment Training Workshop last month held by NRCS in Partnership with LandStudies and the .wi at Franklin & Marshall College. Legacy sediment is soil that was eroded from upland areas after the arrival of early settlers and over the centuries of intensive land uses. The training covered how legacy sediments degrade aquatic resources, how to identify them in the field, and techniques for restoring impacted waterways.

We're often busy planning, designing, and implementing restoration projects, so it's rewarding to take a step back and reflect on the incredible environmental work happening across Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania DEP's Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence recognizes projects that make a meaningful difference through innovation, stewardship, and collaboration.

We're proud that two projects LandStudies partnered on received an award this year:

🌱💦Grandview Stream Restoration: Phase II — in partnership with Manheim Township, Pennsylvania and C.S. Davidson.

🚴‍♀️Oil Creek Floodplain Restoration — in partnership with the York County Rail Trail Authority

These projects exemplify the power of collaborative conservation, restoring natural systems, improving water quality, enhancing habitat, and strengthening the resilience of our communities. We're grateful to work alongside partners who share a commitment to protecting and improving Pennsylvania's landscapes for generations to come.
