Today’s features this juvenile Cope’s gray tree frog! These tree frogs are known for their excellent camouflage skills, changing color from gray to green to brown. Check out the large toe pads on the frog pictured here, used for climbing trees as its name suggests!🪾🌳

One of our volunteers found this Cope’s gray tree frog near AWARE with an injured forelimb, a fractured wrist, and a wound on its back foot/thigh. Rehabilitation will include wound disinfection and monitoring the frog’s overall mobility before a hopeful release.

Say hello to this nine banded Armadillo pup! For the first few weeks of an armadillo’s life, it will nurse exclusively on its mother’s milk. Because this pup came to us as an orphaned infant, our animal care team simulated nursing by tube feeding with formula, as shown in the photo.🍼

Did You Know?: If you come across a baby deer on its own, the first thing you should do is to leave it be! In the first couple months of a fawn's life, their mother will stash them somewhere she thinks is safe so she can go off and graze for the day. The baby will remain silent and still, avoiding predators and waiting for mom to return. Almost always, when folks see a baby deer they think has been abandoned, it is simply waiting for mom, and needs nothing more than to be left alone. However, if you see that a baby deer is actively crying for mom, has numerous parasites on it, or is visibly injured, it may need you to help it get to AWARE or another rehabber.

It’s , and today we are highlighting these 4 orphaned red fox kits. Red fox kits are raised together by their parents for about 7 months, during which they learn crucial skills through play-fighting. These kits will be raised at AWARE until they have reached maturity, and have demonstrated necessary hunting and survival techniques.

Calling all runners, walkers, and wildlife lovers 🥇🏃‍♂️- our 12th annual Night Owl 5k is scheduled for Saturday May 30th! Come join us as we race through the scenic forests of Panola Mountain State Park. Each participant receives a t-shirt, photos with our ambassador animals, and a chance to win medals. Calling all wildlife lovers! 📣 We offer free tours every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Just meet us out on our front porch and you could see AWARE ambassadors like Joey, the Virginia opossum shown here. Our ambassadors rotate so we can't promise him every time, but you are sure to see something cool!
