Calling all wildlife lovers! 📣 We offer free tours every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Just meet us out on our front porch and you could see AWARE ambassadors like Joey, the Virginia opossum shown here. To all those who celebrate, we wish you a happy Easter!🐰🌷As you fill your baskets with treats and goodies, we kindly remind you not to buy baby bunnies as an Easter gift. Rabbits are reportedly the third most commonly surrendered animal to shelters around the United States, and a majority of rabbits bought for Easter will not live past their first year.

We recommend you adopt only if you are prepared for a 10+ year commitment, and only rescue from a reputable organization.

Spring has sprung here at AWARE, which means baby season has begun! “Baby season” generally refers to the period from spring through fall when there is a surge in young, orphaned, or injured animals needing care.

We expect more than half of the 1,400 or so patients we’ll accept this year to arrive in the next 4 months, and they will need food, formula, nests, bedding, fluids, medicine, and more. To ensure we are able to provide the care our patients need, we have a goal to raise $25,000 over the course of this year’s Baby Campaign.

If you feel inclined to give, please visit our website (link found in the comments below) to contribute, and read more about our mission!

Did You Know? - Musk turtles (also called stinkpots) are known for their ability to secrete a smelly “musk” from glands on the edge of their shells when threatened!

Happy ! Today we are highlighting this adult yellow-bellied sap sucker, found in Gray, Georgia with a broken wing and a bruised pelvis. In the photo, he is receiving fluids from one of our amazing wildlife care supervisors! After lots of cage rest, we are hoping to see this guy stand on his own and use his wings successfully.

Continuing with our ambassador reintroductions, we’d like you to meet Hopscotch the green tree frog!

Hopscotch was found in a tree inside a Walmart, and fortunately someone brought her to AWARE. We determined she had a broken leg which was quickly fixed, but because we did not know where she came from (and her species does not do well with relocation) we could not release her safely.

Hopscotch lives full-time at AWARE, where she helps educate our visitors on the role of green tree frogs in our environment.
