The JDC SPORTS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE is Proud to Announce and Congratulate Zachary Lee, Salem High School's Graduating Senior and the Recipient of the 2017-2018 Scholarship Award in Memory of Former Salem High School Coach Jonathan D. Childs. Zachary was Honored with the Annual JDC SPORTS FOUNDATION PLAQUE on May 8TH during Salem High School's Awards Night. The Scholarship Committee will Award him with the Annual $500.00 Scholarship in June 2018.

On his Application, Zachary remarked, "I think I should be selected because of the dedication I have had to my team on and off the field has shaped me into a better person. I think I deserve Coach Jonathan's scholarship because of the struggle I have been through whether it was going straight to work after practice and doing my homework on break or on my off days taking teammates home and helping them study for exams the next day. This Scholarship would take some of the financial burden off my parents."

Zachary graduated with a 3.2 GPA and will be Attending LaGrange College to pursue a Career in Nursing. Kudos to Zachary!

Donations are STILL being Accepted. "LET'S KEEP JONATHAN'S VISION TO HELP EMPOWER YOUTH ALIVE! "

Ecclesiastes 11:5

New Living Translation

Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.

God's ways are beyond finding out! Just because you do not feel HIS presence, know that HE is always working on your behalf to bless you with a good and prosperous life. Hold on to God's "unchanging" hands!

Proverbs 31:30

New Living Translation

Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.

Lord, as I continue to go through life's transformation of mind, body and spirit, one thing I have learned to be true is the above Scripture. Help me each day to keep my mind and eyes fixed on you, not the mirror!

What makes a mother of children happy? Is it just the child? If so, there would be a world of happiness. Children certainly contribute to a mother’s joy. Jesus said, “A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world” (John 16:21).

However, offspring cannot be the only reason for a mom’s feelings of fulfillment. In fact, if a mother’s happiness is contingent on her children, she will quickly become discontented. There is a greater source of happiness based on gratitude to God and His glory. She can rejoice because God opens the womb and invites intimacy with Him.

The Holy Spirit initiates the miracle of conception (Matthew 1:20) Pregnancy is a gift from Providence. The Bible says, “Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3). Therefore, you can be extremely grateful for the gift of God’s child. Your son or daughter is a stewardship from your Savior. This new life is not competition for your time and money. Rather, it is an opportunity to serve, build your faith, and become more like Jesus.

Have you written your heavenly Father a thank you note for the gift of your child? Happiness comes to mothers who experience hilarious appreciation for the Almighty’s entrustment of children. Be eternally grateful for the Lord’s unspeakable expression of love through the life of your little one. Of course, children will frustrate you and let you down, just as you have your own parents and God. So learn to liberally apply love, grace, forgiveness, and discipline in the same way you administer ointment to their ailments. Teach them the truth of Scripture, model faith for them, and joyfully watch as they enter into a personal relationship with Jesus.

The disciple John experienced this. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth” (3 John 4). Mothers experience happiness when they praise God for the privilege of being a parent. Your role as a mom is your glory to God. You smile because you know that as you serve your child, you are serving Christ (Mark 9:36-37). Therefore, be happy, because your heavenly Father has blessed you. He has given you the gift of His son for your barren soul and the gift of a child for your joyful service.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that my happiness is ultimately in You and Your love and acceptance.

The Jonathan David Childs Sports Foundation would like to take this opportunity to share with you two special events that have taken place in the month of May. Both paid tribute to Jonathan’s memory and his dedication to empower, mentor, and train youth to be the best that they can be on and off of the football field.

Your charitable giving has allowed us to award the First Annual Jonathan David Childs Sports Foundation Scholarship for $500.00 to Terrance Duke, a graduating senior and football athlete from Salem High School in Conyers, GA. Terrance met all of the guidelines to receive the scholarship, has played football for 11 years, and has been admitted to Reinhardt University in the fall of 2012. This scholarship in memory of Jonathan, a former Salem High Football coach, will be a welcomed financial blessing to Terrance. He received a plaque at Awards Night at Salem High May 10th, presented by Coach Childs’ brother, D. Christopher Lake. We are sure Coach Childs’ spirit was somewhere nearby proudly smiling and cheering Terrance on!

The Foundation asks you to continue making donations so we can continue to award this $500.00 scholarship in Jonathan’s honor on a yearly basis. Donations may be made via PayPal at: www.celestialenterprisesunlimitedinc.com on the Jonathan David Child Sports Foundation Page. No amount is too large or too small!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Iesha T. Edwards, College and Career Coordinator at Salem High School, for her guidance and support during the application and selection process.

We at the Foundation, would like to congratulate Terrance Duke for being the first recipient of the Jonathan David Childs Sports Foundation Scholarship and pray that he will use it wisely to assist him as he matriculates on to college.

We thank all of you for helping us keep Jonathan’s vision and legacy alive!

The Jonathan David Childs Sports Foundation is also pleased to report that on May 17, 2012 The Potter's House Family and Children Treatment Center in Stone Mountain GA dedicated its Computer Lab in memory of Jonathan’s dedication to the Potter’s House and the consumers and families he served during his employment at the Center. The event was attended by a former youth Jonathan mentored who read a poem he dedicated to Jonathan, staff, Jonathan’s family and friends.

Jonathan's mother, Mariah Childs, signed for staff her latest book, "WALKING THROUGH the VALLEY," which she wrote to empower grievers by sharing her “grief walk” and her “survival kit.” All proceeds from the book sales will be donated to the Foundation.
