Join the Newsome Athletic Boosters in recognizing our JV Football Head Coach, John Hooks!

Now in his fifth year leading our JV Wolves, Coach Hooks brings an incredible wealth of experience, discipline, and dedication to our program. Before joining the Newsome family, he proudly served 24 years in the United States Marine Corps.

A lifelong multi-sport athlete, Coach Hooks competed in football and tennis at the collegiate level, alongside playing basketball and baseball throughout high school. His passion centers on developing well-rounded young men—mentoring them to succeed on the field, excel in the classroom, and lead in life, just as he did leading Marines.

With over 14 years of coaching experience, Coach Shaffer coaches to give back to the sport that has uplifted his life since his high school days. For him, the greatest reward is watching his players grow and improve together as a team. His journey at Newsome has been full of meaningful moments, including the special experience of coaching alongside his daughter for a year, and now coaching the past three years with a Newsome alumna from one of his very first teams! New Chairs Ordered: Brand new team chairs have been ordered for our Volleyball & Basketball programs!

Cross Country Support: Assisted with preparations and hosting for the Cross Country Pre-States meet.

Custodial Appreciation Day: We sponsored Custodial Appreciation Day to say a massive thank you to the incredible custodial staff who keep our facilities clean, safe, and game-day ready! Each team member received a customized "Custodial Staff Survival Kit" gift bag packed with Wolf gear, treats, coffee, and daily essentials.
