Swimmer's itch is caused by microscopic parasites in the water

Swimmer's itch is caused by microscopic parasites in the water. When those parasites come into contact with people, they can burrow into their skin, causing an allergic reaction, also called cercarial dermatitis.

Scientists are working to figure out whether certain waterfowl, invasive species or warming lakes could be factors driving the increase, and whether anything can be done to prevent it.

Good news, there is still time to register for an AIS Detectors Core Course this year. Even better news, there are TWO upcoming workshops that are sponsored which means you can attend for free! Thanks to a sponsorship from Rice Creek Watershed District and the Meeker County AIS Program, we can provide this important education without letting cost be a barrier to attend!

Please share this message with your contacts and spread the word! Let's fill up these workshops and create even more AIS Detectors Volunteers!
