The Lord will equip us for our calling. We often hear that we are all blessed with different gifts. This is absolutely true for those who have answered the call to serve and protect their communities.

God gives each of us unique gifts, and for first responders, those gifts equip us for the moments others hope they never have to face. Your courage, calm, compassion, and quick decisions are not accidents; they are God-given tools for a God-given calling. When you serve others, you honor the One who equipped you.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” - 1 Peter 4:10

Stand firm in the purpose He has placed within you. Serve boldly, knowing your gifts were designed for this work. Trust that God goes before you into every unknown. Remember that your calling is holy and that your service honors Him. Walk confidently, because the One who called you will also strengthen you.

I was talking with one of my guys the other day about the bad calls we experience over our careers. The things we see and can’t unsee, those things we all carry, and how we deal with them.

Memories of the years of bad calls are like Legos in our minds. You don’t notice them for years, even stepping around them. Then one day, when your guard is down, barefoot, you step on one… and it’ll drop even the biggest and toughest among us. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of stepping on one in the middle of the night, just the thought will make you wince.

So, what’s the answer to all of this? The truth is, there’s no perfect answer, but there are things we can all do that can help.

We can start by “sweeping the floor from time to time,” clearing out the debris before it takes us down. That means talking with someone we trust, another peer who’s been there and gets it. It means taking quiet moments to pray and hand some of that weight to the Lord.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28

And yeah, sometimes it means gallows humor we share, the laughing at the worst calls because it keeps the darkness from getting a head start.

The important thing is that we do something, and don’t let the Legos pile up.

For those deputies working this weekend, remember the calling we carry; shepherds at heart, sheepdogs in the fight. We stand for those who cannot. We stay in the fight, we take care of each other, and we watch over the flock. I will be there with you this weekend. Stay sharp, stay steady, and go home safe.

As first responders, we talk often about integrity, but it is far more than a talking point. It is the quiet backbone of our profession, the unseen strength that holds the line when pressure rises and no one is there to witness our choices.

Psalm 119:1 reminds us: “Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord.” Integrity is a walk, a daily, disciplined path. Not a single moment, but a lifestyle shaped by consistent, unseen decisions.

Proverbs 17:23 warns us about the danger of those hidden moments: “The wicked accept bribes in secret to pervert the course of justice.” Scripture makes it clear that corruption doesn’t begin with a headline; it begins in the shadows, in the silent places where our character is tested.

As first responders, our integrity is one of the most powerful tools we carry, stronger than any badge, uniform, or rank. Every time we choose honesty when it’s inconvenient, fairness when it’s costly, or righteousness when no one is watching, we reinforce the trust our communities place in us. And just as importantly, we strengthen the trust we place in ourselves and in one another.

Proverbs reminds us that justice, or the loss of it, starts in the heart. The same is true for righteousness. Every private decision shapes our public legacy.

So may we continue to walk blamelessly, choosing integrity even in the moments that feel small or unseen. And as we do, may we look out for one another, encouraging and supporting each other, knowing that God’s steady presence goes with us, on every call, every decision, every step of the way.

“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.” - Proverbs 11:3

Scripture speaks of integrity not as a personality trait, but as a way of life before God. It is the steady path of those who fear the Lord and walk in His truth. In callings marked by pressure, danger, and difficult decisions, integrity becomes the compass that keeps a person aligned when circumstances try to pull them off course.
Integrity is formed long before the moment of testing. It is shaped in unseen choices, quiet obedience, and a heart that desires to honor God even when no one else is watching. It guards the soul from compromise, anchors the conscience in truth, and keeps a person from drifting into bitterness, pride, or moral erosion.

Proverbs warns that duplicity, living one way outwardly while another inwardly, leads to destruction, often slowly and unnoticed at first. Small compromises harden the heart, distort judgment, and weaken a person’s walk with God. But the upright, those who choose honesty and faithfulness day after day, are guided by the Lord Himself. “He leads the humble in what is right and teaches the humble His way” (Psalm 25:9).

To every officer, firefighter, medic, dispatcher, corrections officer, and service member: your integrity matters to God. It matters more than rank, reputation, or recognition. Not because it earns God’s favor, but because it reflects a life surrendered to Him. Integrity is the fruit of a heart shaped by grace and grounded in truth.

Stand firm. Walk uprightly. Let the fear of the Lord guide your steps. God sees every unseen choice, every act of faithfulness, every time you choose obedience over ease. “The eyes of the Lord are in every place” (Proverbs 15:3), and He is faithful to honor those who seek to walk before Him in truth.

In your daily service to the community, you step into situations marked by uncertainty, conflict, and significant burden. You carry responsibilities that most people will never witness, experience, or fully understand.

In those moments, remember the powerful truth of 2 Corinthians 5:21: Christ, who knew no sin, took our place so that we could stand as the righteousness of God.

Your worth is not defined by the darkness you confront or the pressures that accompany the role you are sworn to fill. It is defined by the One who has given you a new identity, an identity rooted not in performance, but in grace.

Continue to serve andhold fast to God’s promise in Psalm 27:1: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

These verses remind you of two essential truths: you are made righteous in Christ, and you are strengthened and protected by God as you walk into each call.

May you serve with courage, steadiness, and the assurance that you never walk alone.

Blue Line Ministry Message

I want to remind everyone of you, deputies, fire, EMS, and dispatch alike, that we are more than a group of first responders. We are a family answering a call that most people never notice or appreciate until the moment they need us.

Just like no one thinks about a dentist until a toothache hits, most people don’t think about the role of first responders until their world is falling apart. But God sees the work you do long before anyone else does. He sees the quiet sacrifices, the long nights, the calls that stay with you, and the courage you carry into every unknown.

So, we take care of each other. We watch the small things. We speak up when something feels off. We stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder because this job brings a heavy burden, too heavy to carry alone. And above all, we trust the God who called us to this work, because He goes before us into every scene, every shift, every moment.

We stand ready to answer the call. We stand together, and we stand in faith with the One who walks beside us.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.” - Psalm 28:7
