Joy Meadows

Joy Meadows Providing community support, family resources, and housing so children impacted by foster care find stability, healing, and joy. Joy Meadows, Inc.

Joy Meadows was born from the passion of families who were serving in foster care and continually felt they could do more, “if only…..” . If only they had more space to take extra children. If only they had more time to get them the help they needed. If only there was a way to keep siblings together. If only they had the resources to find all the services that were out there for these children. If

only they weren’t alone and isolated as they tried to love the abused and neglected. If only there was a way to share joy and community as they fought through the system to pull children out of the cycle of abuse and neglect. If only there was a better way…and God put an idea and dream in their heart of making a better way. Joy Meadows was formed as a 501(c)(3) in 2017. is a non-profit with the mission to “provide families with community support, housing, and resources so that children impacted by foster care can find stability, healing, and joy.”

It is a centralized place for resources to support foster/adoptive families from our many Resource Programs to the Clothing Closet to nature trails to therapy, along with the barn, orchard, garden and community center so that families throughout Kansas and Missouri can be well-supported. Through the Housing Program it will soon be a neighborhood of homes built to house large sibling groups entering into foster care, or to make sure maximum number of children in care have single-family homes to go to. The Joy Meadows Church Network trains and partners with local churches to create foster care ministries and create Care Communities to provide wrap-around support for local foster families. The goal of everything we do at Joy Meadows is to provide joy to the children during their journey, and to the foster and adoptive families who serve them.

The Aerie Foundation came to drop off a donation this week. They ended up staying to meet the donkeys.

Somewhere between the horses and the goats, one of them said: "This is amazing. I didn't realize how many kids were in foster care."

We hear that a lot on campus. The animals have a way of making the work real in a way words don't.

Grateful for partners who show up... literally. → joymeadows.org/multiplied

A group of 5th graders from Summit Christian Academy came out to volunteer at the Linwood Campus.

They showed up ready to help, eager to jump in, and proud of the work they were doing.

A parent volunteer shared she has always wanted to be a part of something like Joy Meadows and it was filling her heart to be part of the work day.

Moments like this shape more than the space.
They shape the people who spend time in it—kids, families, and volunteers alike.

Ride a horse. Collect eggs. Lead a donkey. 🐴 Yeah, it's fun!

But these aren't just fun activities—they're how kids build trust, regulate emotions, and start to heal. Each child is paired with a Session Leader whose whole job is to listen, build connection, and create space for meaningful engagement.

Animal Sessions are open this summer. Sign up: www.joymeadows.org/animal-programs

Most people think foster care just needs more foster homes. Justin and Sarah Oberndorfer know it's more complicated than that.

After nearly a decade of dreaming and building Joy Meadows, they've learned something that changes how you see the whole system. ❤️‍🩹 You can't fully heal a child without supporting the family they're going home to.

55% of kids in foster care have a goal of reunification. But their parents rarely get the same support that foster families do. That imbalance keeps kids in care longer. It delays healing for entire families.

Joy Multiplied is changing that with a second Joy Meadows campus in Kansas City, Kansas. The first Family Resource Center of its kind in the state.

$3.6 million. Already 50% there thanks to generous donors and grants. This is just the beginning.

3.3 out of every 1,000 children in Wyandotte County are in foster care.

The average length of stay? 32 months, the longest in Kansas.
That's not a statistic. That's a significant piece of a childhood.

More than half of those children have a case plan goal of going home to their biological family. But those parents rarely get the same support foster families do. That imbalance keeps kids in care longer. It delays healing for entire families.

Joy Meadows is changing that with a second campus in Kansas City, Kansas. The first Family Resource Center in the state built specifically for every family impacted by foster care.

One campus. 7,082 moments of support. Now it's time to multiply.

Five years ago, Joy Meadows opened with a home, a handful of volunteers, and a belief that foster care could look different.

What grew from that is hard to put into words.
Children finding safety for the first time. Foster families staying when they almost didn't. Biological parents given a real chance at getting their kids back.

All from one campus in Linwood, Kansas.

Now Joy Meadows is ready to take what works, and bring it to Kansas City, Kansas. A second campus. A first-in-the-state Family Resource Center. More circles of support around more children.

It's easy to see an "Orange Moment" and miss what made it possible—we see the tip of the ice burg.
A child feeling safe.
A family staying together.
A moment where something finally shifts.

Those things don’t happen on their own.

They’re built through support that stays consistent.

Through people who choose to invest in something that doesn’t always show immediate results.

But matters deeply over time.

A child opening up for the first time.
A foster parent realizing they’re not alone.
A family holding together when they almost didn’t.

Those moments don’t happen on their own.

They happen because people choose to step in quietly and make space for them.

Not for recognition.
Not because it’s easy.

But because they believe it matters.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your giving actually makes a difference, this is where it shows up.

Thanks to the Richard Ruffcorn Bible Study group laid the rest of the mulch in the Linwood garden, bringing a finishing touch that will be part of so many moments ahead this summer.

Thank you for helping create a place where families can slow down, connect, and experience something steady and good.

There’s always room for more people to be part of what’s happening here.
