We are very fortunate to be welcoming Stanley Agbontaen as the demonstrating artist who will be facilitating our upcoming Sip, Snack & Paint: Color Outside the Lines experience in Gambrills, Maryland.
Stanley is a Maryland- and Washington, D.C.-based international visual artist whose work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions. Working primarily with oil paint and palette knives, Stanley creates richly textured, vibrant pieces filled with movement, color, and energy. His creative practice also extends to wood and mosaic work.
His artistic journey includes some very impressive milestones. In 2009, Stanley received international recognition when his work was featured in the World Bank's Africa Now exhibition in Washington, D.C. The World Bank subsequently acquired one of his pieces for its permanent collection. The World Bank's original Africa Now catalogue describes his palette-knife technique and his fascination with capturing the movement and energy of everyday life.
His work has also been exhibited alongside paintings by celebrated artists Jacob Lawrence and LoĆÆs Mailou Jones in a 2006 international exhibition in Nigeria organized by the U.S. Department of State. Stanley is also listed in the Arts & Artists files of the Smithsonian Libraries' Collections. Source: https://art.state.gov/personnel/stanley_agbontaen/
And his artistic story continues. Earlier this year, Stanley was one of the featured artists in the 2026 VIBES Fine Art Exhibition at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery in Washington, D.C. The exhibition ran from May 1 through June 30 and brought together artists whose works explored movement, mood, meaning, heritage, resilience, and joy. Stanley's featured works included Crossroads in Yellow, Market Hues, and Graceful Movement.
His contributions aren't limited to galleries and exhibitions, either. Stanley has also been commissioned to create public works of art for several District of Columbia public schools, extending his creativity into spaces where young people encounter art as part of their everyday lives.
We're delighted to welcome Stanley Agbontaen to no more hiding⢠and incredibly fortunate to have an artist of his caliber sharing his talent, and an afternoon of creativity, with our community. We can't wait to see what he helps us create!
