❤️ SENIORS NEED THE LOVE TOO! ❤️

Meet Kacee! This adorable 12-year-old Chihuahua mix has been with us for a little while now, and after dealing with some pesky skin issues, we’re happy to say she’s feeling so much better!

Kacee has recently moved into foster care, and she is absolutely loving it. 🥰 She’s enjoying the slower, more leisurely pace of foster life and has settled in beautifully. She’s even getting along great with the cats!

And while we’re thrilled that Kacee is comfortable and happy in her foster home, we don’t want her to mistake it for her forever home just yet. 😉 Our goal is to find this sweet senior the family she can spend her golden years with.

Kacee doesn’t need endless adventures or a packed schedule. She’s looking for someone who appreciates the simple things: a cozy place to nap, a little companionship, a little love, and a whole lot of being spoiled.

A big thank you to Ashlyn Kausen, a math teacher at Burton Middle School and the 7th grade Lighthouse Advisor, for inviting us to the Fall Festival at William R. Buckley Elementary to share our message. The students were wonderful about promoting Adopt Don't Shop and Spay and Neuter please. Our little ambassador pup, Korey, was there to get pets and compliments and we even left with donations for our pups from several students and families. Education is where it starts and we thank you all for the opportunity to attend.

🚂 THIS WEEK’S CONDUCTOR’S SPECIAL: LYRIC! 🚂

Lyric is officially approaching her first birthday, and this girl is growing into one heck of a superstar! ⭐️

At 10 months old, this shepherd mix is making some seriously impressive strides as she leaves her teenage phase behind. She’s calmer, jumping less, walking better on leash, and showing all the wonderful signs of a young dog growing into herself.

And honestly? We LOVE to see it. ❤️

Lyric can be a little particular about who she calls a friend, so if she’s potentially joining a home with other dogs, she’d like the opportunity to meet her prospective siblings first. Fair enough—she knows what she likes!

Otherwise, this girl is blossoming into the kind of companion everyone hopes a young dog will become. Smart, beautiful, full of potential, and getting better every day.

Meet Arthur! 🐾

Just shy of a year old and weighing in at around 14 pounds, Arthur is a fun little guy with a personality all his own.

He’s social, friendly, and always happy to be part of the action—but Arthur also has a strong independent streak. He’s perfectly content doing his own thing and enjoying his own space when the mood strikes. Basically, he’s the kind of guy who enjoys your company without needing to be glued to your side 24/7.

We like to think of ourselves as the “good news” rescue. The place where the stories usually end with a happy adoption, a second chance, or a tail finally wagging again.

But the truth is, rescue isn’t always sunshine and roses.

This week, we lost one of our favorites.

Big Papi was an older dog who had already lived through more than his fair share of hard times. But when he came to us, we made room for him. We found him some incredible fosters. We gave him comfort, love, good food, soft beds, and the chance to know what it felt like to be cared for.

And then we learned that, despite everything we could give him, Papi was simply sicker than we could fix.

So we made the most impossible decision a rescue ever has to make. We helped him cross the bridge peacefully, surrounded by love.

It has hit all of us hard. Papi mattered. He became part of our rescue family, and losing him hurts.
But as heartbreaking as that decision was, we believe it was the right one for Papi. Rescue isn't just about saving lives. Sometimes, it means having the courage to let go when saving someone from suffering is the kindest thing we can do.

We will mourn Papi. We will miss him. And we will share that grief with all of you because you became part of his story, too.

But tomorrow, we'll get up and keep going.
We'll clean kennels. We'll walk dogs. We'll scoop litter. We'll answer applications. We'll take in the next animal who needs us. We'll celebrate the adoptions. We'll cry over the losses. And we'll keep showing up.
Because Papi's story doesn't make our mission any less important.

It makes it more important.

We may not always have good news to share. But we will always keep working toward more of it.

Rest easy, Big Papi.

You were loved. You mattered. And you will not be forgotten. ❤️

Tomorrow, we keep going. For Papi. And for all the ones still waiting for their good news.

🧺 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MARIA! 🧺

If you’ve ever wondered who keeps the CVRR laundry room from completely taking over the building, meet Maria — our undisputed Queen of Laundry! 👑🧺

Every week, Maria shows up ready to work her magic. She tackles our industrial washer and dryer, helps us catch up on the week’s never-ending messes, and somehow manages to do it all with a smile on her face.

And as if keeping our mountains of laundry under control wasn’t enough, Maria can often be found arriving with a baked goodie or two to share with the team. ❤️

Maria is a perfect example of how every volunteer brings something special to CVRR. It may not always be glamorous work, but clean laundry is a huge part of keeping a rescue running — and Maria makes sure it gets done!

We are incredibly grateful for her time, her hard work, and, of course, the occasional baked treat. Thank you, Maria, for being part of the CVRR family! 🐾❤️
