We at St. Vincent dePaul in Lindenwold were so happy to see one of our own, Sean McGettigan, featured in the Camden Diocese’s Catholic Star Herald newspaper this week! Of course we can’t take credit for Sean – that honor belongs to the people who formed this fine young man, mainly his Mom and Dad (Kristen and Brian), and the schools he attended; St. John Paul II and Camden Catholic High School. Perhaps we did teach him a thing or two about helping neighbors suffering from food insecurity.
While Sean will be graduating in June with honors from Camden Catholic High School… unbelievably he has been volunteering at our food pantry since he was in 7th grade! We could say he’s done whatever was asked of him but in fact he seems to know what to do before being asked. He and his brother Ryan have a knack at showing up exactly when we need them, whether at our all-weather food give-outs or unloading the trucks that deliver tons of food on Wednesdays. While his high school has minimum requirements for service hours – Sean typically triples that number.
Sean applied in high school to become part of the Green and White Society (a select group of students chosen to be ambassadors who welcome students). In his essay and obligatory interview with Msgr. Martin, Sean wrote and spoke glowingly of his experiences volunteering at St. Vincent dePaul. Of him finding the Christ – who in His ministry came to serve the marginalized – invoking Matthew 25:35: “For I was hungry and you gave me food.”
We thank Sean for sharing his gifts with us at St. Vinny’s, we congratulate him on his exploits on the golf course, and we wish him the best as he soon begins the next chapter in his life.
