Closed Monday Animal Adoption Center was founded by Sid Kreitzberg in 1990. Sid is Chairman Emeritus of our board of trustees, and still actively involved with the shelter. In 1985 Sid and a group of 43 volunteers were traveling daily into Camden, NJ to feed sick and starving dogs and cats. At the time Camden was overflowing with stray and abandoned animals, and

Sid and his friends set up feeding stations throughout the city to meet the need. His group eventually formed the non-profit Friends of Camden Animal Shelter (FOCAS). FOCAS learned that the SPCA in Lindenwold, NJ was planning to sell their shelter building on Berlin Rd. Camden County purchased the facility and turned it over to FOCAS for one dollar. FOCAS agreed to continue to rescue animals from Camden County communities, and they reincorporated as the Animal Adoption Center (AAC) in 1991. The first board of trustees designated the shelter as a no-kill facility, and it remains so to this day. Their groundbreaking decision predated the public birth of the modern no-kill movement in San Francisco by three years, and was unheard of in the field of animal control at the time. AAC expanded throughout the 1990’s, improving both the property and infrastructure. The facility can comfortably house 32 cats and 41 dogs, and has found homes for more than 16,000 animals since 1990.

🐾 As if Mishko needed another reason to show off... 🐾

This weekend, Mishko got to enjoy a sleepover with one of our volunteers, and we're happy to report that he was the perfect house guest! 💛

Not that we're surprised.

Mishko is one of the most overlooked dogs in our shelter, and we just can't understand why. He's dog-friendly, loves meeting new people, and has one of the goofiest, happiest personalities we've ever seen. Whether he's making you laugh with his antics or leaning in for affection, Mishko has a way of winning hearts everywhere he goes.

And yet, he still waits.

For 281 days, Mishko has watched other dogs leave for their forever homes while he remains behind.

He’s done everything right. He’s charmed volunteers, made dog friends, and proven that he can be an amazing companion both in and out of the shelter.

Now all he needs is someone to give him a chance.

😎🐾 Resident Cool Guy Looking for a Home! 🐾😎

Meet Pongo — 4 months old, sweet as pie, and somehow still waiting for a family after more than a month in the shelter. Honestly… we don’t get it either.

Pongo is your classic puppy: he loves everyone he meets, enjoys couch snuggles, and can effortlessly show off his good looks (especially when he’s rocking his goggles 😎). He’s playful, loving, and ready to be someone’s best friend.

But despite all of that… he’s still waiting.

Pongo isn’t alone, either. Right now, we have 15+ puppies under 5 months old all hoping for forever homes of their own. Puppies like these shouldn’t be growing up in a shelter.

🚨 Nearly 50 Survivors Need You 🚨

Our friends at Brandywine Valley SPCA recently rescued nearly fifty tiny dogs and puppies from heartbreaking conditions. 💔 Frightened, neglected, matted, and suffering from untreated medical issues, these innocent lives are finally safe because of their team’s lifesaving work. 🙏

Inside the home, there were no lights. The floors were completely soiled. Nearly 50 small dogs and puppies were carried to safety with assistance from the Marple Township Police and Fire Departments.

Now, the team at Brandywine Valley SPCA is providing emergency medical treatment, grooming, medications, vaccines, behavioral support, and compassionate care for every survivor.
But caring for nearly 50 animals is an enormous undertaking, and they urgently need our community’s support. ❤️

Please consider making a donation to help provide the lifesaving care these little survivors need to heal, recover, and find the loving homes they’ve always deserved. 🏡

🐾 Where are our Lab lovers?! 🐾

Benji asks himself this every day while he waits for his forever home.

He may be a mix, but that doesn’t make him any less lovable than a purebred Lab — in fact, we think it makes him even more special. 💛

At just 1 year old, Benji has so much love to give. He adores his people, is open to meeting dogs, cats, and kids, and may just have the cutest little ears you’ve ever seen.

He’s the total package!
