Adopt A House

Adopt A House Adopt A House also contributes assistance to individuals in unfortunate emergency circumstances by easing financial burdens and offering help and guidance.

Adopt A House is a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency and is dedicated to help re-build our local communities by bringing valuable information, solutions and financial assistance to Long Island residents affected by Super Storm Sandy and other emergency situations. Run entirely by volunteers, Adopt A House's simple mission is to support recovery for Long Island's South Shore by preparing and administering a

comprehensive disaster aid and long term recovery program to individuals, families and the community. We achieve this mission through multiple avenues including, but not limited to: educational workshops, community outreach, and programs for financial assistance, community service, and acting as liaison between elected officials, programs and registered families. We are constantly striving to improve our ability to assess housing needs, improve community services and raise funds that go to registered families and our programs.

Our Sandy family may have lost our matriarch, but her husband needs our support more than ever. AAH touched an abundance of people in many different ways. This is how we can give back just as Michele would have done for others. Love and peace to all ❀️

Dearest Friends,
It is with the heaviest hearts to announce that Michele has passed. Michele has been our friend, our advocate, our leader, our fighter, and the voice of our community.
Our hearts are shattered. Our warrior has fought her final battle. We cannot put into words the force that was Michele. She carried us all on her wings and it will take us some time to learn how to find our own footing.
We ask you to keep Drew and all of Michele's family in your thoughts as they navigate this difficult time.
Funeral services will be private but there will be a Memorial at a later date.

Not much to add to this, year 12, but we are still working with others on policies that affects not only our families but many others in many places.

Please remember in your hearts, survivors of Helene & Milton, whos recovery journey just started & for many, may not end in they way they wished, as it has for some in Sandy. Many may never get "home". I hope they build their own hurricane family of support, as we have.

To our Sandy family, know you're loved & are survivors in many ways, most don't know or understand fully.

UPDATE: our meeting has been postponed till Nov, due to recent hurricanes.

Following a two-month hiatus, our meetings with FEMA concerning NFIP resume this Tuesday. Are there any specific questions or concerns you'd like addressed regarding Risk 2.0's impact on your flood insurance policy and associated premiums?

Its been about a week and the destruction of Hurricane Helene, is infathomable. We continue to see unimaginable destruction thru out Appalachian communities. Entire beloved towns wiped out. Roads wiped out, interstates closed for at least a yr. Folks still stranded, and the death toll still rising.

The road to recovery will be long & in places may never happen.

AAH will be sending a monetary donation to the link below, a local church gathering donations, which was fully vetted by a connection in Tennessee, going to local communities like Newport & Erwin, totally decimated.

The photos show places to donate & items for donation.

If you supported Sandy recovery or are a Sandy family, please consider paying it forward as many did for us.

Justice served? Not really- there are close to a dozen bad actors surrounding this case alone.

There are also other fraudulent contractors who stole $millions in grant funds & left the state unscathed, with bad actors complicit in those cases, too.

Many of the victims are now being held accountable by GOSR for these $funds stolen, with no recourse. They depleted their own savings to fix the damages sustained- many still amidst repairs 12 years later.

Lengthy reports/case studies were submitted to Consumer Affairs, both County DAs, the FBI, and the NYAG detailing the crimes, complicit actors, and chronological events- all with supporting photos, communications & documentation.

If you were affected similarly, press these agencies to follow through. They have what they need to do so.
