Due to the current accusations and defamatory remarks being leveled at our sanitary district board, we have found it wise to make some clarifications here, so that there is no confusion.
First, the role that Robert Jackson signed on for:
The role as helper to the heavy equipment operators requires, that he be available to work when the men he is supporting are working. The current hours of such are 7am-12 pm Monday-Friday, guaranteed 25 hours per week with overtime as needed.
While we have entertained the prospect of allowing RJ to begin work on heavy equipment himself, he was never promised such and at no point did we feel it beneficial. Furthermore, this would require another employee to "spot" him, which would still be within the 7-12 window each morning.
It should be pointed out that this position is in no way a "career", nor does it lead to such. The role is that of a labor/helper, not a career path. Hours and hourly wages would presumably never be sufficient to meet a family's needs, but useful as supplementary income. However, when compared to the average wage of the same position in the state of Virginia, Robert's salary was solidly above average.
Robert took a second job, appropriate under the circumstances, and while we were intending to have an HR meeting with him to go over a new contract and discuss his many grievances, we were provided with his new work schedule for his secondary job, which then made the idea of a meeting to be a moot point, as he would be unavailable to Skyland Estates for the performance of his role. Thus, one may consider him "terminated" (legal and appropriate), or that he resigned by taking a job that prevented him from being available to perform his duties here. Either way, it was not a workable situation.
The drama of this week is completely unnecessary and shows solid insubortation on RJ's part, another cause for his termination. This is not the first time that such has happened, and we had hoped that RJ would comply, improve, and carry on. Being that this is not the case, there is no possibility for him to return to his previous role, and we have hired a replacement.
We, as a board, are tasked with making wise decisions and to act with fiduciary responsibility for you, (and us), the taxpayers. Many, many hours are put in by our board members on a volunteer basis; we take no compensation whatsoever.
