Over the last three days, Weston, Nebraska proudly celebrated its 150th anniversary with a spectacular community festival that brought together residents, former residents, families, and visitors to honor the village's rich history and enduring spirit. The milestone commemorated 150 years since the founding of the Saunders County community in 1876, showcasing generations of tradition, pride, and hospitality. The celebration served as both a tribute to the pioneers who established Weston and a joyful look toward the future of this proud Nebraska village.

Although the Milligan June Jubilee 2026 parade was also taking place today, Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln Czech-Slovak Queen, Josephine Davis and Princess, Sidney Davis proudly chose to participate in Weston's historic 150th anniversary parade. We are especially proud to note that the Davis sisters were the only Czech royalty in attendance, representing our rich Czech heritage with grace, enthusiasm, and unmistakable community spirit.

Josephine and Sidney, thank you for being outstanding ambassadors for Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln and for sharing our traditions wherever you go. Your dedication and pride in your heritage inspire us all. Way to go, girls…we couldn't be more proud!

Lastly, congratulations to the community of Weston on their 150th anniversary!

Happy Flag Day!

Each year on June 14, we Americans celebrate Flag Day, honoring the adoption of the Stars and Stripes through a resolution put forth by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The resolution declared that the new nation's flag would consist of 13 alternating red and white stripes, representing the original colonies and 13 white stars on a blue field, symbolizing a new constellation of states united in the pursuit of liberty.

Now, more than two centuries later, and consisting of 50 stars, our nation’s flag remains as a powerful symbol of freedom, courage, sacrifice and the enduring ideals upon which the United States was founded. This flag has accompanied Americans through times of triumph and hardship, flown over battlefields, buildings, schools, homes, and historic moments that have shaped our nation…a nation made up of immigrants from many countries (including Czech-Slovaks) whose diversification has made our country what it is today.

On this Flag Day, we honor not only the flag itself but also those many generations of Americans who have defended the principles for which it represents. It is a day to reflect on our history, celebrate our unity despite our differences and renew our commitment to the values of liberty and justice for all.

May our nation’s flag continue to inspire hope, courage, solidarity and patriotism for generations to come.

It was a beautiful day to be in Hastings, Nebraska today, celebrating the 50th Annual Czech Festival hosted by the Nebraska Czechs of South Central Nebraska. June 2, 2026, an official proclamation was signed by Governor Jim Pillen, recognizing Nebraska Czech Heritage Week which will be held June 21 -28, 2026. Nebraska Czech Honorary Consul, Mila Saskova-Pierce, was spokesperson for the ceremony.

This proclamation honors successive generations of Czech-Nebraskans whose hard-working industriousness, enduring traditions, and profound civic engagement have fundamentally shaped the historical and cultural landscape of our state.

Boasting one of the most robust Czech-American populations in the nation, Nebraska will observe Czech Heritage Week and pay tribute to this foundational legacy while simultaneously encouraging future generations to safeguard and honor their ancestral roots.

Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln recognizes and extends our sincere gratitude to our Miss Nebraska Czech-Slovak Queen and former Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln Queen, Karolina ‘Lina’ Dvorak who was instrumental in setting this special proclamation into motion for the state of Nebraska. Also, to those who facilitated this official recognition, as well as to the many individuals who continuously cultivate and sustain a thriving Czech cultural identity throughout Nebraska and the Midwest.

On hand, at the signing, were chapter representatives of Nebraska Czechs Inc. representing several Czech heritage communities including;
Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln Queen, Josephine Davis.
Nebraska Czechs of Prague Queen, Christina Kavan.
Unfortunately, Miss Nebraska Czech-Slovak Queen and former Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln Queen, Karolina ‘Lina’ Dvorak was unable to attend the proclamation signing.

Please follow the Nebraska Czech Heritage Week page and/or https://nebraskaczechweek.org for up-to-date information about the proclamation, planned events and news about the Nebraska Czech Heritage Week.
