Help us welcome our new Staff Attorney Shannon Mangram!

For Shannon, seeing immigrants as neighbors isn't a slogan, it’s how she grew up.
Raised in a sanctuary city with a background in Law and Global Studies, she has spent her life and career studying human rights and justice. She was inspired to join CLIA by the sacrifices of the immigrant community and a desire to provide a clear path through an increasingly complex legal system. She brings over a decade of experience in cultural competence to CLIA, ensuring that our legal services are as inclusive as they are effective. We are grateful to have her technical skill and dedication to justice on our team!

June is Immigrant Heritage Month, a time for all Americans to celebrate the rich and diverse heritage of our nation. Join us this month in honoring the courage of our ancestors and the diverse stories that make our country prosper. We are honored to work with our immigrant neighbors everyday to help them thrive and have legal status. Our mission is rooted in the fact that immigrants strengthen the fabric of our communities through their many contributions.

Eid Mubarak! Today marks the beginning of Eid-al-Adha 2026, one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic tradition, often called the Festival of Sacrifice.

For those unfamiliar with its origins, Eid-al-Adha is a tribute to the devotion and faith of Prophet Ibrahim. Islamic tradition tells that Ibrahim was prepared to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command, however, God provided a ram to be sacrificed in his son’s place as a reward for Ibrahim’s sincerity. This story reminds believers that true devotion lies in piety rather than material wealth.

The celebration begins with Salat al-Eid, a special community prayer held in mosques or open fields where everyone gathers in their best clothes. A central ritual is Qurbani, the sacrifice of livestock, which serves as a reminder of Ibrahim's submission. To promote charity and communalism, the meat is traditionally divided into three parts: one for the family, one for friends, and one for those in need, ensuring that everyone can participate in the festivities.

Ultimately, Eid-al-Adha serves as a modern reminder to prioritize service to humanity, gratitude, and kindness toward the helpless, helping to build stronger and more compassionate societies.
