✨Summer Intern Foundry Spotlight✨

Meet Trenton Ditter. Trenton is from Columbus, NE and is majoring in child, youth, and family studies with a specialization in human development and family science.

As a NAMI Nebraska research and advocacy intern, Trenton is working to expand NAMI's school-based mental health presentation into rural Nebraska. Trenton's role this summer has included identifying schools interested in NAMI's presentation and establishing a training pipeline for new lead presenters.

"This internship has allowed me to explore mental health-related careers by connecting with various professionals. My conversations with psychologists, social workers, and school counselors have provided valuable insights as I prepare for my next steps in applying to graduate school."

Celebrate Trenton and the rest in our Summer Intern Foundry cohorts rooted in the STEM and behavioral health fields and their incredible host employers like NAMI Nebraska at our Healing Nebraska: Talent Meets Need event on August 27th!

We're in awe of the impact our Summer Intern Foundry interns have had in such a short time! We can't wait to spotlight more meaningful experiences like Adam's in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Meet Adam Gotschall! Adam is from Omaha, Nebraska and is majoring in Psychology and Political Science on the pre-law track. This summer, Adam has been serving as a research and advocacy intern. In this role, Adam is working to establish NAMI throughout the panhandle via educational and stakeholder outreach, researching other NAMI affiliates, and researching community demographics.

"This internship has been a great way for me to experience and learn about the non-profit world. I've gotten the opportunity to help and make genuine connections with people in the state I grew up in and love. I've also been able to learn from others who work to better the lives of people in Nebraska. I've learned and experienced so much, but the best part is being able to make a genuine impact. All in a field of study and potential career path of mine. I recently traveled to Gering, Nebraska and was able to connect with a lot of people and organizations. The opportunity to travel, work, and learn about the staggering deficits in behavioral health access in the western part of our state was a really eye opening experience." - Adam Gotschall, 2026 Summer IF Intern

"At the Nebraska Trailblazers Breakfast I sat down with a group of talented strangers and walked out having made new connections and gained a better understanding of how I can impact my community." - Cassidy June, 2026 UNL Graduate

That's the subtle power of the Nebraska Trailblazers Breakfast. You never know who you'll sit by and how that will change what you decide to do tomorrow.

This event sparks inspiration in students like Cassidy and proves that they too can make a difference in the world they see around them. Hearing from the experience of Lincoln leaders helps them realize that vision, and professionals get the chance to help cultivate the next generation of talent, which is important as we lose them to neighboring states more and more each year.

Join us on September 11 for a breakfast, but more than that, a catalyst for change in Nebraska.

We're more and more excited every day for our Healing Nebraska: Talent Meets Need event in August where we will explore the depth of behavioral health right here in Nebraska.

We wouldn't be able to explore our state's pressing behavioral health issues and celebrate the impactful work our summer interns have done without our sponsors, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska, and Nebraska Honors.

Thank you for helping us bring students and leaders in behavioral health together so young professionals can gain exposure to this meaningful work and so leaders can connect with young talent.

If you're a student looking to find purpose in a profession or a professional looking to share your story, visit thefoundry.co to register for this inspiring event!
