Global Ties Nebraska

Global Ties Nebraska Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

🌏 We connect current and emerging global leaders with Nebraskans through community events, professional programming, Dinner Diplomats, and cultural experiences.🌍 Global Ties Nebraska, formerly known as the Lincoln Council for International Visitors (LCIV), is a nonprofit organization based in Lincoln, Nebraska, which facilitates international exchange by hosting emerging global leaders through pro

grams like the U.S. These short-term visits focus on themes such as governance, education, and cultural exchange, aiming to foster mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations.

Established in 1966 as the Mayor’s Committee for International Friendship, we rebranded to Global Ties Nebraska in 2025 to better represent its statewide impact and global mission under our parent organization, Global Ties U.S.. Through professional meetings, cultural activities, and home hospitality dinners with our Dinner Diplomats, Global Ties Nebraska connects international visitors with local citizens, promoting people-to-people diplomacy and cultural understanding.

In 2023, we hosted 71 international emerging and current leaders across eight unique programs, contributing to a total of 3,745 volunteer hours. Over the years, we have welcomed visitors from 63 countries, fostering global connections right here in Lincoln. The Dorn family has been such an amazing partner over the years in welcoming our International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) delegations to their fourth generation family farm south of Lincoln. These global leaders enjoyed learning about the farm’s operations, water systems, and global trade connections before hopping in the cornfield for some fun selfies! 🌽

What does it take to earn a badge commemorating America’s 250th anniversary and Scouting USA? Our International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) delegation from leaders from Ukraine 🇺🇦, Hong Kong SAR 🇭🇰, Bangladesh 🇧🇩, Belize 🇧🇿, Mexico 🇲🇽, and the Philippines 🇵🇭 found out that it takes an afternoon of team building, leadership honing, knot tying, cobbler baking, and tent building! 🏕️ A very special thanks to the Cornhusker Council, Scouting America and the amazing young leaders that gave our global visitors an afternoon to remember during their short time with us in Lincoln!

The United States is celebrating 250 years this weekend, and it’s a great time to take a deep dive into our vast and varied history! This is a flashback to April when our International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) delegation of English language teachers from Benin 🇧🇯, Nicaragua 🇳🇮, Georgia 🇬🇪, Türkiye 🇹🇷, Tanzania 🇹🇿, Uzbekistan 🇺🇿, Peru 🇵🇪, Chile 🇨🇱, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰, and Vietnam 🇻🇳 visited the Homestead National Historical Park in Beatrice to learn more about how this land shaped (and shifted and broke and molded) our people. As teachers, they were especially right at home in the little one room schoolhouse and among the Little House on the Prairie books! 🇺🇸
