This year’s NAACP’s African American Honors Program will be held on April 21 at 6pm at the Firefighters Reception Hall, 241 Victory Lane in Lincoln.

Started over twenty years ago by the NAACP, Lincoln Branch in collaboration with Lincoln Public Schools, the NAACP Honors Program recognizes African American graduating high school students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

LPS Superintendent Dr. John Skretta will welcome to the group and DeMoine Adams, CEO for TeamMates, will present the keynote address. In addition, this year’s NAACP’s Community Service Scholarship winners will be announced at the Honors Program and we will have the drawing for the winner of the donated quit.

All are welcome to attend!

Thank you to all who came out for our very first NAACP and Las Voces Lobby Day! 🎉 Participants spent the day learning about the Nebraska Legislature, studying bills, lobbying their elected officials, and building community. We look forward to next year’s Lobby Day as we continue to speak up and have our voices heard at our State Capitol! 🗣️

This event will bring together Nebraskans from across the state to advocate for key legislative bills by engaging directly with state senators on issues impacting communities of color. Whether you’ve never advocated at the Capitol before or you are a seasoned lobbyist, this will be a chance for you to get involved and make a difference. You will learn about legislative advocacy, connect with your elected officials, and make your voice heard! 🗣

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded on February 12, 1909, the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, by Ida B. Wells, W.E.B. DuBois, Henry Moscowitz, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Garrison Villard, and William English Walling.

The NAACP led a long campaign against lynching and established itself as a legal advocate with a series of early court battles. Today, the National NAACP continues its role as a legal advocate for civil rights issues, but also focuses on economic justice, health care, education, voter empowerment and the criminal justice system.
