Horses' Honor

Horses' Honor Horses’ Honor is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting senior horses in need. It provides Horses' Honor provides a forever home for our horses.

Since 1999 Horses' Honor has been a sanctuary for horses rescued from neglect, abuse, or shipment to slaughter. Niña Thompson is the founder and driving force behind Horses’ Honor. At present, the facility consists of 83 acres, home to 25 senior horses. Volunteers provide bookkeeping, technical, facility and horse care support. Horses receive regular veterinary care, hoof care and loving. When a h

orse passes away, as donations permit, another lucky horse will take its place. All of our horses have ample acreage to roam with trees, shelter and companionship. No horse is stall bound unless a medical emergency calls for confinement. Horses’ Honor serves the neediest of horses, including some who were too emaciated even to be processed by the slaughter houses – as unimaginable as that is! They are now in green pastures, safe, with pasture mates.

This year we are participating in the Big Day of Giving for the first time.
We are aware that there are many good causes out there, if the safety of elderly horses is important to you, please consider making a donation. Thank you so very much. Niña and the Horses

Today we lost a Sterling Citizen. Szandor, the gentle giant, 17+ hands of love bug.
Szandor injured his leg and the joint was involved, he had spiked a fever despite aggressive antibiotics and care. The decision was made to end his suffering.
We will never forget this VERY GOOD BOY.

One thing you will never see Horses’ Honor do;
We will never take in a horse we cannot afford to care for.
We will never rescue a dozen horses and then plead for help because we lack the funds for their basic care.
When we take in a horse we are able to provide needed medical and dental care, worming, shots and hoof care.
We do not believe in emotional blackmail.
We do not ask for your support because we cannot take care of our horses but because we CAN.

Patrick Swayze came to us at the beginning of March. He is estimated to be late thirties, early forties. Rescued about 5 years ago from Bowie kill pens. Owner surrender.
He was in poor condition but an excellent citizen. Now, less than two months later he looks like a different horse!
We are a senior horse sanctuary and we keep our horses for life.
