Horses' Honor

Horses' Honor Horses’ Honor is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting senior horses in need. It provides Horses' Honor provides a forever home for our horses.

Since 1999 Horses' Honor has been a sanctuary for horses rescued from neglect, abuse, or shipment to slaughter. Niña Thompson is the founder and driving force behind Horses’ Honor. At present, the facility consists of 83 acres, home to 25 senior horses. Volunteers provide bookkeeping, technical, facility and horse care support. Horses receive regular veterinary care, hoof care and loving. When a h

orse passes away, as donations permit, another lucky horse will take its place. All of our horses have ample acreage to roam with trees, shelter and companionship. No horse is stall bound unless a medical emergency calls for confinement. Horses’ Honor serves the neediest of horses, including some who were too emaciated even to be processed by the slaughter houses – as unimaginable as that is! They are now in green pastures, safe, with pasture mates.

The Horses’ Honor Tack Store is a great place to find used and sometimes new equestrian gear at prices horse lovers can appreciate, all while helping support the senior horses and donkeys in our care. From donated tack and riding gear ready for a second life to brand-new items, the store is packed with bargains, unique finds, and plenty of reasons to keep checking back!

Last night, we welcomed AP Davis and her support team to the ranch for a pre-race meal, prep, and celebration of reaching their goal of participating in the Tevis Cup. Tomorrow morning (Sat 8/1/26), AP and Jeepers, the only Quarter Horse in the race, will begin the 100-mile journey from Tahoe to Auburn, CA, and we’re proud to be sponsoring them. Good luck and be safe, AP and Jeepers!
