Greetings to all worthy citizens who travel the world, from the earth worm’s short journeys to the bird’s annual migration, we all follow our path. As I said last week, we have many faces and friends to meet at Wind Song Sanctuary.
As I prepared for my journey, I did what I always do. I went overboard, with scheduled stops, a complete itinerary, an estimated time for each encounter, and of course, an expense list. What a night mare.
Then it came to me, an epic journey such as this must embrace the random element, if it is to be truly epic. Therefore, as my journey began, I burned my map, left my compass at the barn, and struck out on my way across the barn yard; anticipating my journey.
As I shut the gate to Hampton West, searching for my first encounter, it was already coming my way, in tandem. They arrived with wagging tails, walking slowly on arthritic legs, suggesting we sit under an oak tree, a perfect spot to tell their story.
We were born eleven years ago at Christmas time, black and brown shepherd puppies, begging to be named, Christmas and New Year. Ours was a happy home, and we were well taken care of, for eleven years. Suddenly, our owner died, and we were abandoned, and taken to the shelter, with little chance of finding a home. We were old, hard of hearing and arthritic, two old dogs, not long for the world.
Then, a miracle happened, someone heard about a sanctuary in Lincoln, called Wind Song, a forever home for animals in need. A call was made, and on the thirteenth of March, we arrived, trembling and afraid, hoping we could be loved again.
We now have the special care and medication we need. We take walks around the farm, lie in the afternoon sun, and sleep in our new warm beds at night. We belong here, it was meant to be.
I watched as they walked away with no worries. They remind me of the two brothers in the movie, ‘Second Hand Lions’.
I wonder what will come my way tomorrow.

Finally, we made the big move, and as we speak, plans are being drawn for our pigerific compound. A shady spot under the oaks surrounded by green grass, plenty of fresh water and private cabins with beds and our names over the door. We like to call it, Hampton West.

In the coming weeks, we will share pictures of my fellow Hamptonites and our little piece of heaven on a beautiful ranch in Lincoln, California.
As it happens, our temporary compound is next to a pony named Hadrian, after the emperor Hadrian, who built a wall seventy miles long across the English border, to keep out the Scots. So, when I asked him about our estimated completion date, he offered me a quote that Emperor Hadrian made to the Roman Guard. ‘Brick by brick my citizens, brick by brick.’

Everyone has pitched in, in every way they can, setting up the barn, the pastures, pens for the goats, water and feed stations, and caring for everyone. Soon, when Hampton west is finished, I have decided to take on a Homeric journey of my own. There are twenty seven acres to explore and many new faces and friends to meet. I hope you will tag along with me and share the lives and stories among the animals on the farm. We all have a great deal to learn from each other, and diversity paves the way to understanding. Remember, whether a journey is short or long, it starts with a single step.

Greetings fellow animal lovers; Here are some photos of "MAC".
MAC is a Black Husky mix with Blue eyes. He is 1yr 2 months old (DOB: 2/25/2011).
He has been neutered. MAC needed sugery on his right shoulder about six months ago. The vet said because he grew to fast he developed a chip growth on his shoulder. His shoulder still gives him trouble so he limps, but it doesnt stop him from runni...ng and playing. MAC loves to play ball, go on walks, and fall into your lap as if he is a lap dog, and he loves to go in car rides. His owners 14yr. old daughter has been his primary companion and he does what ever she says.

In his owners opinion, MAC would do best as an only dog as he tends to become possessive around other dogs. Especially at feeding time. Unless, he had someone to train him. He hasn't had alot of training, expect for the sit, stay comands.

MAC belonged to his owners step son, but when he moved out he couldn't take him. So they kept MAC for him. With deep regrets his owner has asked me to help find him a new home but because of unforseen circumstances they are unable to keep him.

So, I "Moi" am asking all you wonderful animal lover's to PLEASE Help this doggie "Mac" have a happy ending to his journey.

Wind Song Animals is a beautiful forever-home animal sanctuary in Lincoln CA where visitors (of the human-kind) are encouraged (by appointment) to come face to face with our residents where they can frolic with goats in a large open pasture, sit down with a pig (or two...) who want nothing more than a tummy rub, cuddle with chickens, geese and/or ducks who seek out nothing but your loving attention, or get nuzzled by some very friendly horses and goats!

Other residents merely want a quiet place to be loved while enjoying their lives peacefully, naturally, and organically.

If one like “moi” takes some peaceful time to sit back and smell the roses, with my new pal Socraties “Socrates” then I should be able to reflect-back on my spiritual roots. Take my name for example “Homer”. An early Greek Philosopher.
"Well, we can speculate that coming from the year 8 B.C., Homer did not use writing to plan his texts. Instead he would include frequent summaries and predictions of events partly to help him solidify and recall the plan of his story, and his numerous catalogues of warriors served in part to establish in his mind “WHO” was to be killed off in the next few hundred verses - or so."

‘So he sang and recited’. He would have had to recite his verses to someone to scribe…… so then it hits me, I am just like that with my assistant today at the new “Wind Song” Sanctuary. She would translate my pig-Latin and write down my words as I recite them to her. Now I am starting a new Homeric Journey with my pal Socraties “Socrates” and I will narrate the journeys Socraties and I embark upon at the sanctuary and our new discoveries and friends including the mischief and excitement we get ourselves into.
