"So that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."

Two words right in the middle of that: so that.

Paul says the comfort you receive is not only for you. It's issued to be passed on. Not when you're healed, but when you're still limping.

Which means what you survived is not wasted. Who needs the comfort you have already received?

After Sarah's mom died, her stepdad put all of her things in totes in a storage unit. At the bottom were about ten prayer journals, filled from top to bottom and front to back, starting when Sarah was five or six.

It was an incredible gift to find them.

Sarah's mother's private prayers are still working in people who are alive right now. That's what it looks like from the other side of the grave.

Are you worrying about tomorrow before today has even begun?

We plan, imagine worst-case scenarios, and try to control every outcome. Yet the tighter we hold on, the more exhausted we become.

Jesus reminds us:
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow.” — Matthew 6:34

Trusting God doesn't mean abandoning responsibility. It means recognizing what belongs in His hands.

Do what you can today. Trust God with tomorrow.

Jesus is better than all the rest.

He created us. He sustains us. He made purification for our sins. And He offers an eternal hope nothing in this world can match.

Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, “the founder and perfecter of our faith.”

For somebody facing their first holiday with an empty chair: do what makes you feel good.

If that looks like getting a new tree, get a new tree. If that looks like trying a new cookie recipe, try a new cookie recipe.

For Sarah, what felt good was doing nothing.

When Sarah's mom died, both of her pastors and their wives came and sat with her. A friend and her husband came from the church too.

They didn't talk about what had happened. They didn't really talk a whole lot at all. But them just being there, sitting with her for whatever she needed, was very healing.
