Facebook/Newsletter - Carly and Diane Kennedy The Colonial Hills Neighborhood Association was originally formed in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s by a group of residents who wanted to make improvements to Colonial Hills City Park. S

ince then, the Association’s role has grown tremendously and now includes the running of holiday park events, spring and fall garage sales, landscaping and Christmas lights contests, and publishing of a quarterly newsletter. Through its beautification projects and events, an active neighborhood association can help a community prosper and grow, eventually contributing to lower crime rates, higher property values, and a greater sense of homeowner satisfaction. The Colonial Hills Neighborhood Association has strived to keep residents informed about important issues through its newsletter and monthly board meetings which address both public and private concerns that may affect the neighborhood and surrounding areas. For example, projects such as the widening of Pioneers Blvd., 70th Street, and Old Cheney Road regularly drew city engineers to CHNA board meetings in order to gain resident opinion about the work. Retail developers for all three corners of 70th & Pioneers came to present plans and ask for suggestions about which commercial interests the neighborhood would like to see locate there. Our city councilman at the time of this writing, Jon Camp, occasionally attends meetings to keep the board up-to-date about city issues which are then passed along to residents. CHNA promotes community closeness by organizing an Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July event, and Halloween Costume Party in the local park for all ages to enjoy. Spring and fall neighborhood-wide garage sales, advertised by CHNA, are always popular events. Since CHNA is a neighborhood association and not a homeowner’s association, annual dues of $15, at the time of this writing, are voluntarily given by the more than 1,500 households located within the boundaries of Colonial Hills. These boundaries are 56th Street on the west, Old Cheney Road on the south, 70th Street to the east, and Pioneers Road on the north. Also included are the small areas of Ridgeview Drive and 57th and 58th streets just north of Pioneers. Our newsletter is mailed out three times a year to all private residences and commercial entities within the above property boundaries as well as to Zeman Elementary School, the neighborhood school for Colonial Hills children. Executive board meetings are held every third Thursday of the month, except when school is not in session due to holiday or summer breaks. There are no regular meetings in June, July, August, or December. Colonial Hills Neighborhood Association serves an important purpose by keeping residents informed about issues that may affect them and by creating a friendly neighborhood environment with planned activities and contests.

🇺🇸 Our Neighborhood 4th of July Event Needs Your Help!

We’re looking for a volunteer (or a small team!) to take the lead on this year’s celebration. Past organizers are ready to guide and train anyone willing to step in, so you won’t be starting from scratch.

Without new volunteers, we won’t be able to hold the event this year.

If you can help keep this tradition going, please reach out to Chris at [email protected]
