Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest fraternity. It is comprised of adult men (18+) of good character from every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion, who believe in a Supreme Being. Its body of knowledge

and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, faith, country, and fraternity. Freemasonry (often simplified to “Masonry”) enhances and strengthens the character of the individual man by providing opportunities for fellowship, charity, education, and leadership based on the three ancient Masonic tenets: Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. Massachusetts Freemasonry is a crowning legacy of this venerable heritage as we strive to “make good men better.”

Don't miss your opportunity to learn more about our wonderful Lodge this Saturday, October 21st, between 9 am and 3 pm. If you've ever wondered who the Freemasons are, whether they are the descendants of the Knights Templars, or what the inside of their building looks like, here's your chance to find out. Many Wayland, Lincoln, Hanscom Base, Sudbury, and Weston men have chosen Joseph Warren-Soley Masonic Lodge at 181 Lincoln Road in Lincoln as their Lodge. We hope you stop by our Open House and meet us and discover what Masonry offers that makes us proud and honored to be Freemasons.

For 275 years Freemasons have been part of an unbroken tradition of great men who have changed our world. Presidents George Washington, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman as well as Thurgood Marshall, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, and John Glenn, for example, all joined the Masons prior to achieving the greatness we recognize them for.

Freemasonry was formally organized in London, England in 1717. In 1733 it was organized in Massachusetts, making it the oldest Masonic group in the Western Hemisphere. Freemasonry, the world's oldest and largest fraternity, through a variety of North American Masonic philanthropies, donate $3,000,000 to charity every day, 70% of which benefits the general public. Freemasonry in Massachusetts is comprised of 35,000 members and more than 230 lodges throughout the Commonwealth. For additional information visit www.askafreemason.org or www.jwsoley.org

On this we thought we would take the opportunity to shed some Light on what the symbolism around the working tool called a "Lewis" means in Freemasonry.

In speculative Freemasonry a Lewis is the son of a Freemason who joins the fraternity. As an analogy it is commonly meant the father raised (levatum) the son into position to take his place as part of the structure of Freemasonry. Yet that is not the end of its symbolism within the Craft.

To further elaborate on said symbolism of a Lewis and the connection to the ancient organization of Freemasonry we have shared a wonderful explainer by The Winding Stairs Podcast which goes into much further detail illuminating one's understand and hopefully sparking some curiosity into why Masonry has such staying power over the generations and within families.

If you are a Lewis or not and would like to find out more about our egalitarian and enlightening fraternity our doors are open to your inquiry, please join us OCT 15th 9am - 3pm for good conversation and refreshments at our Lodge in Lincoln for our 2022 open house.

Memorial Day is a solemn holiday to honor the brave men and women who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice while actively serving our great Nation. In Massachusetts alone we honor over 37,000 brave soldiers, like Brother & Gen. Joseph Warren, who were killed serving our great nation.

So in between the revelry that has become Memorial Day take a moment to reflect upon the solemn meaning of this holiday and say a prayer for the dearly departed, and for the widows and children these brave soldiers left behind.

Lest we forget those that sacrificed their future so our's can be lived in freedom. May you and yours have a blessed and peaceful holiday.
