Dear colleagues,
I'm sorry to inform you that the Association of Nonprofit Executives will be dissolving soon.
After 24 years, US Bank is no longer able to support our Executive of the Year Award. Their annual grant of $1500 made it possible to provide $500 checks to the winning Executive Director and also to their nonprofit organization. The remaining $500 helped to cover the expenses of the luncheon.
I've been donating about 50 hours of my staff time each year helping to coordinate meetings and the Executive of the Year Award event, but without the $1500 grant, I don't see how we can continue. Membership dues have helped a little bit but barely cover the general office expenses of running the organization.
If anyone has a suggestion for a business that might step in to sponsor this award, please let me know. Otherwise I think the time has come to let go of this public service project.
It saddens me, but in looking back, ANPE has been a positive thing for our community and has brought recognition to the hard and dedicated work of some of the best in our profession here in Lincoln.
I have learned so much from the meetings over the years, visiting over 50 different nonprofits and learning about each of them. It has allowed me to build a network of friends that I can call on for advice whenever I need it. I remember some of the first meetings I attended at the Downtown Senior Center, where the luncheons were referred to as "therapy sessions" by those who attended. I learned how to write grants and how to manage a nonprofit board through the kindness of people like Marilyn Gorham, Gary Tunnison, and others who were willing to share their knowledge and experience with someone like me, who was just getting started.
Congratulations to the past winners over the years, the list reads like a who's who of those who have done outstanding work in our nonprofit community and I'm proud to have been a part of that effort.
