LBK received the Commonwealth Award from the Nebraska Recycling Council at its annual conference this week!
The award recognizes businesses, organizations and individuals that dedicate their time, talent and resources to their community while improving the environment, health and public welfare through recycling and better materials management.
At LBK, our goal is to give gently used bicycles a second life. We accept bikes that can be reasonably repaired by our mechanics, then get them safely back on the road and into the hands of a community member in need.
Sometimes, after evaluating a donated bike, we find that it is beyond what we can reasonably repair. In those cases, we "scrap" the bike, saving usable parts for future repairs and recycling the remaining materials. Recycling is the last step. Keeping bicycles in use for as long as possible is always our first.
This recognition reflects the work of our volunteers who put in countless hours repairing bikes, sorting parts and helping us make the most of every bicycle that comes through our doors.
