If you want to stay up-to-date on issues that could impact your child and their education, the Ndsc C has provided this great article with links to trustworthy information. We need to stay informed and vigilant as we advocate.

The Policy Pulse is where NDSC shares important media coverage on policy issues relating to the Down syndrome community.

Today’s provides important, factual updates on the recent firings at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Although a federal judge has temporarily halted these terminations, the ongoing discussion about dismantling the Department of Education underscores the urgent need for continued advocacy.

Many media outlets have turned to NDSC Policy & Advocacy Co-Director Stephanie Smith Lee, who previously served as Director of OSEP under President George W. Bush, for her expertise and perspective.

We’re proud to share several recent articles featuring her insights on what these developments mean for students with disabilities nationwide:
🔵 NPR – “Here and Now”: Disability leaders warn Education Department cuts will have a significant impact (10.16.25): http://bit.ly/4ngMOVe
🟡 Disability Scoop: Ed Department Blocked From Laying Off Special Education Staff (10.16.25): http://bit.ly/47BsKbe
🔵 District Administration: Special education takes massive hit in government shutdown (10.15.25): http://bit.ly/4oQdfSX
🟡 Disability Scoop: Ed Department Lays Off Nearly All Special Education Staff (10.14.25): https://bit.ly/3JlZtrW
🔵 Education Week: Education Department Layoffs Would Affect Dozens of Programs. See Which Ones (10.17.25): http://bit.ly/43xvqEr
🟡 K-12 Dive: Judge halts mass firings of federal employees — for now (10.15.25): http://bit.ly/4nY4RQZ

These articles help shed light on the critical role OSEP plays in ensuring that students with disabilities receive the services and protections guaranteed under IDEA.
