Join us THIS WEDNESDAY May 20, 2026, at 13:00 for our webinar “A self-completion survey now. The retirement of face-to-face data collection in the European Social Survey (ESS)” with Rory Fitzgerald.

The European Social Survey (ESS) is a comparative general social survey, research infrastructure, that has been collecting high quality data for the social science community since 2002. With cross-country comparability at the core of its mission, the survey used a single data collection mode, face-to-face, from its inception, to avoid introducing differential mode effects between countries.

This presentation will outline the reasons for the mode change, present the new self-completion method and early pre-testing, and showcase emerging findings from the Round 12 mode experiment. The annual WAPOR meeting is a leading forum for discussing advancements in public opinion and survey research, providing an opportunity for networking, learning about the latest research trends, and engaging with diverse experts from across the globe, led by the WAPOR Conference Chair Prof. Wolfgang Aschauer (Universität Salzburg, Austria).

Abstract submission is open until TOMORROW, April 30.

Abstracts are accepted in English and in Spanish. Proposals of papers, panels, and posters are invited for submission.

Today, the world is characterized by a complex and contested multipolarity in which economic and political power are increasingly distributed across regions. Across Africa, geopolitical competition intersects with regional integration and diverse political trajectories.
