While sitting on our boat near the shoreline of our Lincoln neighborhood, a splash of movement caught my eye. At first glance, I mistook it for the top of a drifting log. But as it got closer, I saw that it was a BEAR! 🐻

It was angling in from the middle of the lake, swimming heavily as if it had traveled all the way from the opposite shore. In all our time here, we've never witnessed one swimming by us. What an incredible, unforgettable experience!

4th of July is almost here! A reminder before you head to Lake Roosevelt:

FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL HERE. Always. No exceptions.

With a full fire ban in effect and a statewide drought emergency, the risk of wildfire is extreme. Please don't bring them, don't use them, don't risk it.

FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL AT LAKE ROOSEVELT — NO EXCEPTIONS

Fireworks are NEVER allowed at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area — and this year the stakes are higher than ever.

A full fire ban is already in effect
Washington State has declared a drought emergency for ALL watersheds due to record low snowpack
Both the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation and the Spokane Tribe of Indians have banned the sale and use of all fireworks on tribal lands.
The fire and fireworks ban include both tribal and NPS shorelines.

The numbers don't lie:
• 85% of Washington wildfires are human-caused
• 271 fireworks-ignited fires burned over the 4th of July weekend in 2024 alone

There is nowhere legal to buy or set off fireworks at Lake Roosevelt. Don't risk it.

Community Update: Pati Anderson has shared a video with the Lincoln Community Association, taken in Lincoln off Sterling Valley Road near the Flinner's location. Additionally, Pati observed a notably large cougar crossing the road and heading towards the cliffs while she was on her back porch. Thank you to Pati Anderson for sharing this information.
