If you haven’t already heard, there are currently two active fires near Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area: the Hope Fire across the lake from North Gorge and China Bend, and the Western Pines Fire along the Spokane Arm, Northeast of Davenport.
If you plan to recreate out on the lake, keep in mind that fire aircraft may be sourcing water at Lake Roosevelt. If you see an aircraft above the lake, keep your watercraft near the shore for you and the pilot's safety. Additionally, drones are not allowed within the recreation area and flying them can seriously affect firefighting efforts. An unknown risk in the air like a drone means that any aircraft MUST return to the ground. Stay clear and let fire personnel do their job.
For the most up-to-date information on the Hope Fire and the Western Pines Fire, follow Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, LCSO and Northeast Washington Fire Information. Please contact us by phone, email, or send us a chat if you have any questions or concerns.

The flyer has a red banner on the top that reads “warning to all aircraft.” Below, it reads “Lakes and rivers may be used as a water source for firefighting aircraft which pickup water hovering or while taxiing at take off speeds. When aircraft approach at low altitudes, please clear the river or center of lake.” Below the graphic, text in a yellow box reads “stay near the shore and avoid the aircraft and associated wake.”
