WHAT DOES 1¢ ACTUALLY MEAN?

We’ve seen some confusion about the wording, so here’s the simple breakdown:

1¢ per $1 = 1%

Measure F would add one cent for every dollar spent on taxable purchases in Lincoln.

$10 taxable purchase = 10¢ more
$50 taxable purchase = 50¢ more
$100 taxable purchase = $1 more

When you hear “one-cent sales tax” and “1% sales tax increase,” they’re simply two ways of describing the same amount.

It also does not apply to everything you spend money on. Measure F would not apply to groceries, prescription medicine, rent, utilities, or homes/property.

And Lincoln isn’t the only nearby community with a local sales tax. Roseville voters approved a local sales tax in 2018, and Roseville reports that those revenues have helped support essential city services, including police and fire.

That means when Lincoln residents make applicable taxable purchases in Roseville, they’re helping generate local revenue that supports Roseville’s services. Measure F would create additional locally generated revenue for services here in Lincoln.

What does police staffing actually look like in Lincoln?

As Lincoln continues to grow, so does the demand for public safety services.

Minimum patrol staffing can be as little as 2 officers and 1 supervisor for the entire city. Those officers may be responsible for responding to a wide range of calls, including 911 emergencies, traffic collisions, crimes in progress, medical calls, domestic violence incidents, and other calls for service.

This post is meant to help our community understand what police staffing can look like today and why staffing levels matter as Lincoln grows.

Measure F would establish a 1¢ local sales tax, with revenue remaining local and available for City services, including public safety.

The Lincoln Peace Officers Association is committed to helping inform our community with facts related to public safety and the needs of a growing city.

🚔 MEASURE F: WHAT IT MEANS FOR LINCOLN

Over the coming weeks, the Lincoln Police Officers’ Association will be sharing information about Measure F and the challenges facing public safety as our community continues to grow.

Lincoln is growing and the demand for police, fire, emergency response, traffic enforcement, investigations and other essential City services is growing with it.

Measure F will appear on the November ballot and would establish a 1¢ local sales tax in Lincoln. Revenue generated by the measure would remain local and be available for City services, including public safety.

Achieving and maintaining appropriate staffing affects much more than the number of officers responding to 911 calls. It affects investigations, traffic enforcement, proactive policing, training, supervision and our ability to respond when multiple emergencies occur at the same time.

Measure F is a general tax, meaning the revenue is not legally restricted exclusively to police and fire. That distinction matters, and we want residents to have accurate information when considering the measure.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll break down:
• What Measure F actually does
• What purchases are—and are not—subject to the tax
• Lincoln’s current police staffing
• Emergency response and service demands
• How the revenue and accountability provisions work

Our goal is to make sure Lincoln residents understand the facts and what Measure F would mean for our growing community.

Day 4 — The final day of the Police Unity Tour — one we will never forget. 🇺🇸🚴‍♂️

On Tuesday afternoon, Team Lincoln proudly joined more than 2,500 cyclists and 200 motor officers for the final ride into the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington.

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the Police Unity Tour, making the experience even more meaningful. During the ceremonies, a $2.5 million check was presented to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, representing donations raised by Unity Tour riders and supporters from across the country.

After days of miles, sun, rain, wind, and determination, we rode together to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The experience was emotional, humbling, and a powerful reminder that these heroes are never forgotten.

Thank you to everyone who supported Team Lincoln throughout this journey — especially our sponsors, supporters, families, and community.
