Southern Heights Food Forest

Southern Heights Food Forest A 2-ac space on the south side of Lincoln, NE that was building community around food & outdoor exploration.

This vibrant space in South Lincoln includes a full-sized, research-based outdoor classroom, over 50 community gardens, an urban agriculture plot, and Nebraska’s first public Food Forest. Our vision is to change the way we think about and value public space as a community. Creating a space where entire communities and families come together to interact with each other and build relationships. A sp

ace where children can play freely while learning about nature, where we teach each other about food, and where people form multi-generational relationships - a catalyst for true community development.

Emergency: Friday 8:30am, City Council will hear about AND VOTE ON the plan to removal ALL 28 PIN OAKS on Goodhue Blvd (15th between the Capitol Building and A St.) There has been NO NOTIFICATION for the residents impacted by such a drastic move and NO shadow planting (put in a new tree before the old tree has to come down.)

WE NEED FOLKS TO SHOW UP AND SAY NO.

Additional talking points will appear in the comments below and I'll keep adding to the outline here.
- failure to seek community input from those impacted by this massive loss of canopy cover
- dubious design changes to the layout of Goodhue Blvd
- lack of positive track record for street tree replacement
- undue utility burden on the local residents as summers heat up
- questions about who made this call to begin with

many thanks to Jess Guiseke for bringing this to public attention.
