That’s how long CASA volunteer Nicola stood beside these boys, providing consistent advocacy, support, and a voice throughout their case.

The case was open for just five days before Nicola was assigned, and from that point forward, she remained a steady presence for the boys through every step of their journey.

Today, the boys’ case came to an incredible milestone: adoption. ❤️

While Nicola’s role as their CASA volunteer comes to an end with the closing of their case, the impact of the time, care, and advocacy she provided will remain a meaningful part of their story.

Congratulations to this family on this special day, and thank you, Nicola, for standing beside these boys for 1,167 days and helping ensure their voices were heard. 💙

I was in foster care & I can tell you that you can not compare the youth that you are fostering to your biological children.

We have "broken" brains from immense trauma, or brains that have been healed, but can rip open old scars at any minute. Our brains don't work like your biological children, we don't have the luxury to say, 'hey we live in safety now so we can fit into your ideal or norm'. We did not grow in health & this is a big advantage your biological children have had.

We can't forget that these are children with adult wounds. They need something different. You can't love your foster children like your biological children either; you can love them similarly but also uniquely. Because we need more reassurance, we need more spoken, more affirmation & more consistency. We need more because foster children need repair & new growth.

You can't treat a child that hasn't had the luxury of stability or unconditional love the same as one who has; & I mean healthy, unconditional love in action.
