Yesterday evening, our officers and advisors welcomed our incoming FFA members at Alcona Community Schools Open House. The officers hosted games, shared informational posters, and served ice cream topped with our student-harvested maple syrup. Meanwhile, Mr. Hubbard and Ms. Morton engaged with new and returning students.

Thank you to everyone who attended this exciting event to kick off the 2026-2027 school year!

We have news!!! Review and judging has come back from National FFA and we are happy to that members of our chapter will be recognized for their hard work three times at the upcoming National FFA Convention in October!

1. Our chapter earned a National Chapter Award 1-Star ranking, putting our FFA chapter in the top 10% of FFA chapters in the Nation.

2. Two of our graduates Haley Glick and Jacob June have earned the highest degree that an FFA member can receive - the American FFA Degree. Less than 1% of FFA members earn this honor.

3. It has been a while, but Haley Glick was the Michigan FFA State Winner in the Veterinary Science category for her Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) and was able to submit her Proficiency Award to National FFA. We are proud to say that she has received a Bronze rating and will be recognized at the National FFA Convention.

Today we were happy to host our annual Barnyard Olympics for youth at the Alcona County Fair!

The FFA Officers got together last month and planned activities like: Pin the Tie to the FFA Jacket, Roping, Pig (ballon inspired) Herding, Piper Cleaner Flowers, FFA Emblem Coloring and Rubber Duck Race for youth to participate in for prizes.

We had a blast and thank all who participated! Always plenty of great things to do at the Alcona County Fair!

Agricultural advocacy is taught in the classroom, and this week, our members were shining stars by bringing what they have learned to our community. Our members competed in the Alcona County Fair, where they put their skills and knowledge to the test. Through showmanship skills, high standards of animal welfare, communicating/educating the public on livestock, and directly providing homegrown livestock to the auction. We are proud of every single member who participated in this event. The time, dedication, and love it takes to raise an animal do not go unnoticed!

Our officers have been hard at work completing our Program of Activities (POA) for the year during our Chapter Officer Retreat. The POA is used to plan every meeting, activity, convention, and volunteer event for the calendar year. Our surprise location for this year’s retreat was Detroit, MI. During our visit, we were able to spend time at the Detroit Zoo, Belle Isle Aquarium and Great Lakes Museum, and shop at Costco for groceries for the trip. We are enthusiastic for the school year to start and to grow our chapter.
