Our hearts are incredibly heavy at Camp OBR. We learned of the passing of Darrell Morton, a man whose strength, generosity, and love for his family left a permanent mark on all of us.
Darrell was the proud father of fallen Clinton Police Officer Ryan Morton. Ryan’s loss hit our local community deeply, but getting to know Darrell and family brought a profound sense of purpose to our mission.
At a recent spring camp, Darrell attended a memorial dinner to honor Ryan. We held a dog tag ceremony that Ryan's legacy would always have a home at Camp OBR. Darrell had just undergone an operation confining his arm to a sling. But when the moment came to honor his son, Darrell took off the sling, stepped forward, and drove Ryan’s dog tag into the gazebo himself, determined to lift his son's story for everyone to see.
As if that moment wasn't powerful enough, Darrell and his wife Tara completely surprised us with a significant donation to Camp OBR. Their incredible generosity ensures that we can continue to serve and support the heroes and families who walk through our gates.
Darrell’s fierce love for his son and his sudden generosity shape the spirit of Camp OBR. Please join us in sending our deepest sympathy and support to Tara and family.
