Professors Steve Hardy and Nate Bicak presented at the American Institute of Architects Nebraska Chapter Symposium in Kearney, sharing how UNL’s ASSIST engaged learning model is helping rural Nebraska communities turn big ideas into actionable design strategies.

Their session explored how community values, interdisciplinary collaboration and strategic visioning can shape healthier, safer and more resilient spaces—from downtown revitalization to housing and community facilities.

Through real-world projects across Nebraska, they highlighted how design can strengthen civic life and improve quality of life in rural communities.
