This year’s annual update.
—————————-—
Happy New Year!
I hope your 2022 is off to a good start. I realize that may be a stretch given the barrage of serious, exhausting pandemic news that continues to dominate our inboxes. I’m here to offer a break. A boost that doesn’t involve needles - just an update on the past year of Bryent Wilkins fellowships that we provide through Circle K.
In 2021, we awarded two fellowships (teaser - one award winner has ties to the Dport class of 1992). We did not award a fellowship in 2020 due to the limited options for activities. In 2021, we made up for it by awarding two.
One of the award winners made a meaningful trip back home to better understand the country of her childhood. Unfortunately, given the unrest in that country, we aren’t sharing any details of her report which is largely based on candid, private conversations. Her summer was a serious, thoughtful, personal adventure and one that we are excited to have supported.
The second award winner was Henry Large. Many of you know his parents, Curt and Anne Large, from our time in New Haven. I want to encourage you to read his report (http://yalecirclek.com/past-winners/). I know I always say that. I always want you to see the first hand accounts of Circle K’s impact. But if you have had a rough year, you should also read Henry’s report because it will make you smile. It’s a PowerPoint with pictures that smacks you in the face with the joy, adventure, and learning about the world that 20 year-olds are supposed to experience. Highlights include a cross country road trip with his mom, learning how to surf, and an internship at the San Diego Public Defender’s office. It swept me back to my own early 20s and also reminded me of the blue sky that we will see again once the grey clouds of COVID clear. It is well worth your 5 minutes to read. Again, here is the link http://yalecirclek.com/past-winners/.
I want to thank you again for your support of Circle K and the fellowships that we provide in Bryent’s memory. I hope you will continue to support Circle K so we can continue to honor Bryent with these fellowships. You can make a donation at http://yalecirclek.com/donations/.
Best wishes for lots of good news and blue skies in 2022.
Sincerely,
Scott
