Lincoln Fire Fighters Local 644

Your Lincoln Firefighters were hard at work today with multiple fires around the city throughout the day. The one you may be seeing or hearing about most came in at 650 pm with a report of fire at a hotel on the northwest side of town. Initial companies on scene were met with heavy fire. There was no report of a full evacuation or "all clear" on arrival so the first crews deployed hand lines to the 3rd floor to try and buy time for evacuation and for other crews to search rooms. Due to heavy fire conditions and roof collapse all interior crews had to back out and the strategy on scene became defensive. Ground monitors, elevated master streams and more hand lines were placed which brought the fire under control. We want to thank all the bystanders and citizens who brought water, sports drinks and food to us as we were on scene for an extended time. Your Lincoln Firefighters will always give all to protect the residents of Lincoln, and we thank you for all your continued support!

Local 644 members from Station 8 had some neighborhood visitors stop by this morning on there way to the park. Your Lincoln Firefighters always love giving a rig tour to kiddos, especially on such a beautiful morning!

L644 would like to congratulate Brother Dave Wordekemper on his long and distinguished career with the NPFFA as a member and Eastern District Vice President.

Throughout his years of service, Dave has been a tireless advocate for firefighters across Nebraska, dedicating countless hours to improving safety, working conditions, wages, benefits, and the overall well-being of our members. His leadership, commitment, and passion for the labor movement have left a lasting impact on our profession and on those who have had the privilege to work alongside him.

Dave's commitment to public service extends beyond the fire service. As a Nebraska State Senator, he has continued to serve the people of Nebraska with the same dedication, integrity, and work ethic that have defined his union and firefighting career. His unique perspective as a firefighter and labor leader has helped bring the voices of working families and first responders to the halls of government.

On behalf of the members of Local 644, we thank Brother Wordekemper for his many years of service, leadership, and dedication to the firefighters of Nebraska. While he may be retiring from his role with the NPFFA, his continued service to our state and its citizens remains an inspiration to many.

Congratulations, Brother Dave, and thank you for everything you have done—and continue to do—for our members, our profession, and the State of Nebraska.

Your Local 644 union brothers and sisters are in North Platte at the 79th NPFFA Annual Convention gaining knowledge with other Nebraska Professional Firefighters about current issues and strategic priorities. We are working together to improve safety and working conditions for each other across the state. We are greatly appreciative of North Platte Local 831 and the NPFFA officers for hosting us and doing the hard work to put on this convention!
