💪 🔥Thank you to our WONDER(ful) Women of Steel, who SHOWED UP for our residents! They traveled from across multiple states to be right here in Lincoln, bringing heaps of love in many forms!! 💚

Not only did they donate a TON of items for our residents and alumnae community support program, they stayed to volunteer for the afternoon. Some sorted donations for The Daisy Thrift Shop, while others wrote letters of encouragement that our staff will pass along whenever a resident has a rough or sad day.

Our residents were truly touched that so many WOMEN care about THEM, and they’re still buzzing with gratitude that someone came all this way to help. Thank you, Women of Steel! Your words of hope, belief, and encouragement are among the greatest gifts our residents could ever receive. (Don't miss the incredible 3D pop-up card by special guest Ken that reads, in part, words from Les Misérables: "Even the darkest nights will end...and the SUN will rise again...and so will YOU!")

Maybe this weekend you can take a moment to write a letter to someone you know whose heart is ready for someone to fill it with a touch of joy, too. 💚

💚💚 Today, our residents surprised Executive Director Monica Zinke to honor her Founders Award from Inspire: Celebrating Women's Leadership! With decorated garden rocks and a perennial we hope will bloom in spring, they created a lasting tribute right outside her office window. Any tears shed were tears of gratitude, empowerment, and heartfelt love. 💚 Women celebrating women...is ALWAYS beautiful.

👋 Many hands make light work! 👋 We recently welcomed volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and WOW, they pitched in and worked together so warmly, efficiently, and as an incredible team. They sorted donations and hung and organized clothes for our Daisy Thrift Shop. Like the many groups already reaching out to us for holiday gift planning for our residents, THANK YOU to every hand and heart that supports our amazing women here at Fresh Start. 💚💚 Family & Friends of the Lincoln Nebraska Stake

⚠ 👗 👠 FASHIONISTAS, DON'T PANIC! Nebraska Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design students are hard at work on their creations for Project Funway. And because their program is sadly ending after this year, they're doing something for the first time ever: creating their masterpieces from damaged, deaccessioned clothing in the department's historical collection. We can't promise Jackie Kennedy wore any of it...but we can't promise she didn't, either!

💚 What do you get when you cross an extraordinarily creative paper craft with a person passionate about lifting up women? You get the cutest little mini-purses filled with goodies!!! We'll share more at a later date, but thank you to The Heritage League for their incredible gifts last week. HOORAY for women cheering on women!! 🎉

'X' marks the spot! Fresh Start's entryway recently had a large mark overhead, reminding each of us that we are just where we need to be. As one resident told us yesterday, "I'm just so thankful I get to be here. It helps take the pressure off of me while I look for a job. I know I have a home here and I feel so lucky."
