The Autism Society of America is concerned by statements surrounding the August 10 Executive Order suggesting that vaccines may be responsible for the increase in Autism diagnoses. Autistic people and their families deserve clear, accurate, evidence-based information when making important healthcare decisions.

We urge federal leaders to follow the evidence, invest in rigorous research to answer the questions we still do not understand about Autism, and prioritize the healthcare, services, and supports Autistic people and their families need today.

To read more about the Senate bill that passed the HELP committee - https://www.k12dive.com/news/interagency-agreements-committee-oks-bill-to-block-4-education-department/826647/

The Autism Society of America thanks U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, Senator Susan Collins, Senator Lisa Murkowski, and the Senate HELP Committee for advancing legislation to prevent multiple proposed transfers within the U.S. Department of Education, including the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS).

We are also pleased that the RISE Act passed the Committee unanimously. The bill would help ensure a smoother transition to postsecondary education by allowing students to use their IEP or Section 504 Plan as documentation to access disability accommodations.

We will continue advocating for the final passage of these bills and for additional protections to ensure students with disabilities continue to receive the supports, services, and civil rights protections they deserve.
