The Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska

The Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska We’re a charitable foundation established to serve the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln and beyond by promoting Christian philanthropy.

For years, we’ve been helping people plan their giving and fulfill their wishes to live more charitably. The Catholic Foundation was established in 1999 to manage diocesan endowments, and to help schools, parishes, and Catholic organizations meet their financial needs. It was also established to assist individuals with charitable giving and planned gifts. Since then, we have been helping Catholics

through education, strategic financial planning, estate planning, and fund management. What’s more, investments made through The Foundation are carefully screened to ensure they are aligned with Catholic morals and teaching. The Catholic Foundation serves the entire Catholic community and is governed by an independent Board of Directors. Members of the board represent parishes throughout the Diocese.

Charles McConville’s life centered around two places near Indianola: the family farm and St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

He spent most of his life working the land that held generations of family history. At St. Catherine’s, he attended daily Mass, served as an acolyte, and cared deeply for the parish community.

When Charles passed away, his children learned he had left a gift for the church he loved. “There’s no doubt Dad wanted his gift to support this community,” says Don McConville. “The Catholic Foundation made sure his wishes were honored.”

Read the full story on our blog to see how Charles’ gift is helping care for St. Catherine’s.

As new priest assignments begin across the Diocese of Lincoln, we give thanks for the faithful people who help prepare our minds, bodies, and spirits to follow Christ.

This season brings change for many parishes, and it reminds us how selflessly our priests serve the people entrusted to their care. You can find the full list of 2026 clergy appointments from the Diocese of Lincoln at the link in the comments.

Today, on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, we’re highlighting the Falls City Sacred Heart Catholic School Foundation and the lasting support it provides for Catholic education.

Established with the Catholic Foundation in 2007, this endowment helps support Sacred Heart Catholic School in Falls City, serving students from PreK through 12th grade.

Sacred Heart’s roots reach back to 1891, and generations of families, teachers, alumni, parishioners, and friends have helped carry its mission forward. The endowment helps to continue that legacy by strengthening Catholic education for students, now and for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who supports Sacred Heart Catholic School and its future.

Summer is the season for youth camps, where young people are given time to grow in faith, friendship, and joy.

Around Nebraska, many of these ministries are supported through direct pass-through gifts from generous donors who want to help make those experiences possible.

One example is Camp Kateri Tekakwitha, a Catholic summer camp in McCool Junction and a ministry of the Diocese of Lincoln. Through the sacraments, the beauty of creation, and Catholic fellowship, Camp Kateri helps young people encounter the Lord in a meaningful way.

Thank you to our donors who support places like Camp Kateri and help young hearts draw closer to Christ.

Four years ago, Melanie Kottwitz—our Director of Operations—joined the Catholic Foundation, and our team has been blessed by her kindness ever since.

For many, Melanie is the friendly voice they hear when they call. For us, she is a constant reminder of what it means to serve with compassion, patience, and joy. She's also the person who keeps us in line, which isn't an easy job.

Thank you, Melanie. We are so grateful for you.

When Fr. Henry Denis was a prisoner of war during World War II, he made a vow to Mary that if his life was spared, he would build a shrine in her honor. After the war, when Fr. Denis was assigned to St. Germanus in Arapahoe, Nebraska, he fulfilled that promise.

The Donor Designated Fund benefiting St. Germanus Parish honors the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine beside the church, helping preserve the story and spirit of the shrine. Established through the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Our Lady of Fatima Fund is open to anyone who would like to make a gift.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.

It is a day that points us toward hope and invites us to reflect on Christ’s enduring presence in the life of the Church, allowing us to consider the grace of lives lived with generosity.
